You don't? That's alright. You don't have to, that is, unless you're buying something extremely expensive.

I was looking at my own Credit Card today and was slightly frustrated that the ink I use to sign keeps rubbing off. So, I went to Google to try and see if there was a pen with ink that's known to work.

And then I came across this:

Having worked as a cashier, I find this hilarious. I've had managers make HUGE huffs about processing transactions for customers who don't sign their Credit Cards.

Signing X, incidentally, is not a bad idea -- it's quick and easy, and if someone wants you to "sign on the X," it's already signed.

Finally, I know of no law that says your signature has to be in your own alphabet. So I found a website which converted my name to Egyptian hieroglyphics. Although "John Hargrave" was too long to remember, "John" was just snake, bird, caterpillar:

I think that's a somewhat effiminate signature for the leader of the gods, but I was in a hurry. The kid at the Trader Joe's looked strangely at the receipt, then back up at me, as if to say, "Are you really him?" I trucked out of there before he could ask, and in my haste to escape, nearly ran over an eight year-old standing in the doorway. I apologized, which was a dead giveaway, since the real Zeus would have just fried the kid with lightning. I'm such a fake Zeus.
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

My mom and I were in some department store (Macy's or some junk like that) and the cashier said people shouldn't sign them but write 'Ask for ID'. She then proceeded to write it on my card. I took it from her and said I'd write it later. My mom and I were both appalled by the cashier's antics. She only wrote the A but it's still on there and this incident was months ago. I don't care if you sign yours or not but leave mine the fuck alone.

Dunno about America, but here it's illegal to accept an unsigned credit or debit card full stop. (Though it's illegal in the same way that helping yourself to a penny you found on the floor is, essentially - so long as there's no issue for you to get caught out on [like the card actually being stolen - but it's a fairly unlikely occurance]).

Not that the signature is very important any more anyway, what with Chip and Pin.

Credit cards should be signed, in my POV at least.

If someone takes your card, and they use it, in the States at least, they will get your money, which of course, sucks.

Oh well.

Signing the backs of cards shouldn't be such a big deal, but having a signature doesn't hurt. Say, if you were asked to sign something the signature would be a handy cross reference.

But it's not like that happens, if ever, for minor purchases. The 'check ID' issue rarely comes up since most sales clerks don't even bat an eye to see if there's a signature.

I was actually told by my bank's teller to write down 'Ask for ID' so I just nudged in 'Check ID' next to my signed name. It doesn't hurt to have it on there, but instances in which I'm asked for an ID seem to be next to nill.

I don't know what kind of pen I used, but the ink seems to have permanently fused with my card unlike everything else that rubs off in my wallet (It's bad in the sense that the embossed numbers on my cards are beginning to rub out.)

I <3 Zug!

Well so many places nowadays have you run your own credit card that it doesn't really matter. I have 'SEE ID' on the back of mine, but only for a false sense of security. I mean, if someone got my credit card, they would probably hit the internet before anything else. I have verified by Visa, but I've bought many things online and very few asked for my extra password before allowing my purchase.

I always get frightful when I am asked to sign a receipt or something because while my credit card has my signature. I can never seem to be able to write it the same way. Every time is always different, I much prefer putting in a pin.

I also scratched off the three digit number of the back of mine (after writing it down somewhere on the off chance I forget).

Once again, it's all a false sense of security ;)
