Do you think a fishing contest would be a good addition to the upcoming games?

So after watching the episode with the fishing contest on the anime. I thought it would be an awesome idea to apply to the game series. The bug catching contest was always so much fun to me.

-Do you think this could be possible to incorporate into the games?

-What are some Pokemon that would be favorites in these competitions?

-Do you think you should be able to use any rod or a contest rod?

Please post your thoughts!

I never did the fishing thing on 4th gen.

How about Pokeringer or Pokemon Ping Pong? Pokeringer could be quite cool and the Ping Pong a fun mini game.

I...actually think it would be a really cool idea. As previous games have had things like the size of Magikarps you've caught, they could incorporate that into the judging.

I would like to imagine that there is only a "Contest Rod" that can be used, so you and your NPC opponents have the same chance of encountering the same Pokémon (heck, make it multiplayer as well - compete against friends!).

That's actually a good idea. I sort of liked the bug-catching contest in HG/SS, too.

multiplayer would be awesome, but if it's in Unova the the national dex should be open by then given Unova's lack of fishes. things like size and species sould count towards your score and reeling pokemon would be harder.

I'd like this idea, especially if it works like the ones featured in Zelda games.

Oh!! I didn't even consider multiplayer! That would be soooo innovative. Good input guys/girls.

Well, it's better than the freaking musicals, that's for sure.

I'd prefer a fishing contest over a bug catching contest. And of course I'd love Pokeathlon to come back.

Nah, I'd rather see Pokeringer! That looked like fun. :D

As Cilan would say, "It's fishing time!" Yes, they should. However, it should have level. 50s-100, and a post-game activity filled with Pokemon from the region and others like Basculin and Gyarados.

Possible? Absolutely!! Perhaps you'll be limited to using the Contest Rod (with a 100% encounter rate) a finite amount of times (say, twenty or so), and the body of water you fish in (within the area the contest is located in) would affect what Pokemon the player encounters, as well as their levels. You could choose to retire at any point (the same as the Safari Zone and National Park), and after each capture you'd have to select which Pokemon to keep. Of course, win or lose, you get to keep the Pokemon.

What's pokeringer?

Pokeringer is a competition where flying Pokemon compete with each other and carry a ring. The object is to grab the ring off of the balloon in the air and toss it onto the goal post first. The trainer orders the flying Pokemon to use attacks not to just battle the other Pokemon for the ring, but to improve the odds of getting the ring on the goal post too. To be a good Pokeringer combatant, one must pay attention to the wind currents and the opponent's moves. A round of Pokeringer has so far been played with two to four participants.

Oh. It sounds familiar now, but it sounds like something that could also be apart of the next gen game along with a Pokemon catching contest. Personally, I hate musicals. This is Pokemon! Not an effing beauty pageant. That would be rather interesting to see how they could pull that off.

It'd be nice if it was something a la Animal Crossing. It could take place in its own area, and the Pokemon you find there would be really affected by what season it is, more so than normally in Unova.

If it were to appear, I have a feeling it would be exceptionally similar to the bug catching contest.

Though, the idea of multiplayer is intriguing. That would make it even better.
