Do you think after DP the writer should retire Ash?

Should Ash leave the show?

Well, for 10 years he was the main character and the show basically milked him with all his worth now. So should he be retired in the next series for new characters or let him stay?

No, he shouldnt leave. I still think Ash is relly cool and I think new beginning trainers would just destroy the show. Ash is fine in my opinion!

Sadly, it's too late to retire Ash. If they were going to do that sort of thing, it needed to be done at the end of the Kanto League.

Even though Ash is one of my fave characters, I believe he needs more development or leave for new characters.

They should have done that when they have occasion with end of BF/DP... Now he should just beat all the champions, what then? A new main character would be cool.

Ow yeah, please let Ash retire and let Max be the new starring character. Too bad they never are going to do that...

Should they? Yes.

Will they? No.

I always had to wonder how well the Raikou special did in Japan. Before we actually got it, Kenji was still apart of the team and the fans threw a fit because Takeshi was gone. Perhaps the special served more than a simple purpose of advertisement? It scrapped all the old characters and showed us somebody else. Did it go over well? Last I heard it really didn't, but I never actually knew for certain...

Another unfortunate point is that, regardless of what current fans even want, Satoshi and Pikachu are just too profitable. Or more...Pikachu is profitable and Satoshi is just its baggage. An extremely lame and stupid reason for keeping a character around, but that's just how it goes sometimes.

I think they should.

But what I think doesn't matter. What will happen is that Ash will skip along merrily and continue into Gen V.

While I love the character of Ash, I really do, I think it's about time they retire him. Bring in a fresh cast. Heck, if they really need to hold someone over after Sinnoh, let it be Dawn and have her travel with the new hero guy. Let Ash be relegated to Pokémon Master, or rival or cameos or something. I just want the character's story to have not only a beginning and a long journey, but a satisfying end too.

Send him to Africa!

But no, they won't do it. He'll be the main character as long as the series continue. He'll be there forever and this is one of the reasons why the show is retarded.

Ok seriously i really dont know why some people so much want that Ash leaves. It seems that pokemon is the only anime where people want completely new cast, but they dont understand that this move would lead this show only into chatastrophy.

Sure he was in this show for about 11 years already, and people can get tired from the same character but they must accept the fact that he is not going anywhere.People are too used to him and older characters so if he gets replaced audience wouldnt accept this well(i know i wouldnt),and you can be sure that show wouldnt last long.

Sure this move has worked with Digimon and barely with Yu-Gi-Oh(Yugioh 5D is nothing compared to original series.),but in pokemon case having entirely new cast would basically ruin this show.

Everyone have to deal with the fact that when Ashs story is finished and stories from other characters aswell(because noones story is resolved) this show will end aswell.

... Because having a new cast totally ruined the games didn't it? And the Pokémon Special manga? Its been pure rubbish since Red left. >_>

Ash needs to buzz off already. :x
But of course, he's the writers' Precious Gem so he won't be going anywhere.
If the writers were going to get rid of Ash they would have done it during BF or waaaaay earlier, like after KANTO.

The closest thing to retiring Ash the writers could do (but won't because they gots no brains) is to yank him out of the limelight even more than during D/P and just have him be a supporting character to his 'successor' during Gen V, or have him focusing on a separate challenge or something (similar to BF, only with the 'successor' doing the actual gyms).

Just a thought.

Does this topic really need to come up during every single league? I swear we had this topic when Houen was airing and again when Battle Frontier was going on.

Something no one's brought up yet is the fact that if Satoshi leaves, Pikachu will go with him. The series' mascot not being in the show isn't going to work, and no other pokemon (not even Potchama) is going to be enough of a replacement for it.

Besides, any character they replace Satoshi with would quickly turn into a carbon copy of the guy.

Not leave, but have his Journey end at some point.

Look, I love Ash as much as the next person, And I agree that taking him and pikachu out completely would be a major factor in the downfall of the series.

But say if there really is 1000-1500 Pokemon ( Hypothetically, of course.) Now, on average, if 100 pokemon are in each region, that gives us roughly 10 more regions if we go all the way up to 1500, or 5 more regions until 1000. Do you really want to see Ash be denied a League victory just to go travel to the next region and do the same thing he did in the last one?

I could care less whether Ash leaves and a new carbon copy is born. Just so long as that copy has a Pikachu or stronger that TR could follow:p

Ash would most likely win, challenge the E4 and the Battle Fronteir, and move on the next league. DP doesn't even seem like a good place to end a series.

If the writers are going to stick with the same old storyline, I see no reason to replace Ash. But if someone was to do, say, a 26 episode spinoff totally different from the main series with all original characters and a semi-serious storyline, that'd be great.

If they actually give him any character development, then maybe yes. If not, then there's no point in dropping Ash since the new character would probably be bland, and if they drop Pikachu along with Ash, then they'll be finished. Either way, there's no point of dropping him now out of all times, so it's not going to happen.
