Do you think Ash has a chance of getting second place in the Kalos League?

I wouldn't put it out of the question, seeing as even with the Tobias fiasco, he finished in the Top 4 (either 3rd or 4th place) back in Sinnoh. It could be a way of having him progress while still upholding the status quo.

I think he has high chances of finishing in the top 4 or heck even top 2, and if he uses Mega Evolution, he would i guess make it through..

I don't remember him ever being shown as this powerful a trainer before... Even in DP he was good but a lot of the focus was on power-of-friendship stuff (in order to contrast with Shinji I guess). In XY however he's won almost every battle and legitimately at that - I can't think of any DEM or BS victories. I feel this series he is Satoshi the Strategist.

If ever he'd make the final match-up I'd hedge my bets on it being now. (Though it's still unlikely...)

There were more contrasting predictions in this thread than I thought there would be! I guess some are more optimistic than others.

XY Ash has a solid chance of winning the League.

He looks far more competent than he did during DP and that's saying something.

I think he'll get top 8, but I'd prefer if he makes it to the top 4 this time around.

Wow, so you think he'll get the same place like in the Unova League? o_O XY Ash seems 10x times more competent that his Unova self imo...

I think he has a chance to reach the finals of the Kalos League, after beating Sawyer in the top 4, Ash is then beaten by a super powered trainer of mega evolutions in the same vein as Tobias.

Judging by his team coming along quite well, I say he could go end second place but he could also end up in top 16 like Kanto.

This is Ash's first real chance of winning a league.

If he doesn't do it here, then it's game over, guys. We might as well pack our bags and leave the anime forever, because I don't see him winning the league anywhere else but in Kalos at this point.

So yeah, second place or anything lower is not acceptable at this point. Either go big or go home.

He has a very high chance to win
Hahahahahaha.

Yeah, I got absolutely no faith in Ash. Who cares how powerful of a trainer he's portrayed up until that point? It means almost nothing 'cause we all know that a higher power (the guys in charge of the anime) has decided that he'll be doomed to lose, no matter how absurd or DEM'd the causes are.

I would love it if he gets second place but I want him to win the league this time. Like a lot of people have pointed out Ash is at his best in XY. He deserves to win more than ever before and his fans deserve to see him win at least once. They might reset him again in the future (for marketing and other silly reasons) so why not give him his big win before doing something stupid like that?

And if he doesn't win then yeah he should at least get the second place. I like the idea of someone like Tobias who uses legendary pokemons defeating him (because that would show that you can't beat him unless you own legendaries). Also this is kinda random but if he doesn't win this time then I want his league rival to be a girl. We have never had any female main rival or league rival yet, so at least that would be something new and different. Plus, I think a female trainer who owns and trains powerful legendaries would look really cool!

In that case, you might wanna say you've got absolutely no faith in the writers.

Ash is doing the best he can given the plot restrictions. Although quite frankly I don't see where the show could go after that. Ash wins the League, then challenges the Elite 4, loses and moves on to a different region?

That's actually very plausible.

He certainly has a chance of getting high up, and even winning. I honestly think they may have planned him to win in Sinnoh: I think the decision to keep Ash into Unova was done later and that's why Tobias was so out of nowhere: they didn't plan on having him beat him the same way Tyson and likely Harrison were. Heck, perhaps the Ash vs Paul fight was originally the final battle when originally scripted.

Though I honestly think they are setting up Ash to have his final run in Kalos: ratings are still down and they need to refresh the anime to compete with Yokai Watch. So I suspect he will win, and then the next season will have a new protagonist. And given how Japanese ratings have gone, I suspect that XY Ash is going to be Yusei, to the next protagonists Yuma.

Yu-Gi-Oh fans will know what I mean.

^ If the show's ratings are down and they've got Yokai Watch on their rears, that's even less reason to go with a risky move like replacing the main protagonist and his yellow rat. They aren't gonna do that.

Interesting...you both have good points. It does seem implausible ordinarily, but given the show's ratings are at an all-time low...maybe it'll happen.
