As a guy who's seen Pokemon caught by main characters aside from Ash for years, I find it somewhat strange/disappointing that there seems to be no hints of Ash's new classmates/companions catching new Pokemon.

Given that they appear absent on a occasional basis, and aren't really centered in this series, it doesn't seem necessary to hand them any Pokemon. The only notable capture is Lillie obtaining Shiron, but she had no Pokemon beforehand and still doesn't have two. Additionally, it's her primary Pokemon which will probably play a role in her story in the future.

This series might roll a little differently.

I highly doubt it.

Thanks to the cast being so big, there's not enough screentime and development to go around in general. Which means there's only so much room for the classmate's Pokemon. Heck, we've had plenty of companion's Pokes--and even ones that belonged to Ash--who were underused and/or underdeveloped you almost wonder why they caught in the first place.

And, well...I don't really think these kids really deserve more Pokemon...:cautious:

I think it might be a bit early to say that they won't get more Pokemon, especially when they haven't explored the other islands yet as far as I know, but at the same time, I wouldn't be too surprised if they all just have one Pokemon for awhile at least. They certainly can't handle giving all of the characters a lot of Pokemon since they'd likely fade into the background. I could see Lillie getting more Pokemon, probably no more than a total of three, depending on her role in the story and how they adapt her storyline from the games, but I'm not so sure about the other characters.

Maybe she will get more Alolan Formes.

Since she goes to Kanto at the end of the games, maybe if she returns to Alola, she would have Pokémon related to those she catches in the anime.

The blue brat can have Wishiwashi as long as she surrenders the Popplio to Serena.

I don't think this will happen anytime soon. I just can't imagine Lillie really interacting with Pokemon on such a personal level. The rest yea maybe but I don't care about them much.

Only if they rid of the current setting to back to travelling/adventure plot. And isn't Kaki had two?

I can see Kiawe, Mallow, and Sophocles getting at least one more Pokemon. Not so sure about Lana since they seem to emphasize her bond with Popplio, and I feel like getting another Pokemon would get in the way of that.

As for Lillie, I doubt she'll actually catch another Pokemon, but if the show does take some of the games plot, I could see her having to carry around a Cosmog like Bonnie did with Zygarde.

Considering Wishiwashi requires water to move around, I doubt Lana would catch it.

Same goes for Bruxish. The writers don't want another Goldeen or Horsea situation.

The plan is to keep the blue brat at Brooklet Hill ;)

I think it's too early to tell, but I don't know how much I'd mind it if they didn't, to be honest. I feel like companions' Pokémon and captures have really gotten the shaft the past few years. With a larger cast and everyone having one Pokémon at the moment (two for Kiawe and Lana if you count their ride Pokémon) I actually think it works out better because each of those individual Pokémon is receiving more attention and a bigger emphasis placed on the bond with their trainer. Alola is all about the relationship between people and Pokémon, and having those Pokémon out of their poke balls all the time and assisting their trainers in things other than just battles has been a nice representation of that aspect of the region.

It depends on how the rest of the series will be handled. If they start traveling together and the Trial Captains don't take their role as Trial Captains and Lillie doesn't go to Aether to steal Nebby, then I totally expect them to start catching more Pokemon. If they all graduate and split up (hopefully), then idk if they'll be catching anymore Pokemon aside from maybe Lillie. You don't battle the Trial Captains in Sun/Moon so I doubt Ash would, thus there's not really a need for them to have multiple Pokemon. Though they still could get more anyway. It just depends on what the staff wants to do with the future of the show.

I don't disagree with you, but what you said made me think about it, and now I really wish the writers would give someone a Pokémon that depends on water to move around. This is the only region thus far where they could do it and still be able to have them majorly involved in the story from episode to episode, without it being a goldeen scenario. I think it could also open the door for some under water adventures, too. Which I've kind of been hoping for anyway.

I think Sophocles needs a powerhouse, just in case. Maybe Electabuzz or Vikavolt. Please keep Alolan Golem out of the anime, or preferably out of everything

Same for Lana, if they want Popplio to evolve slowly or to not evolve. Dewpider would fit her well.

Whatever happens I think they will have a similar role to Misty and Brock's early Pokemon, I don't see things like Clemont's Chespin or Iris' Emolga happening on this large cast.

I'd like Kaki to get two Pokemon because the two of them talk about practicing all the time but we've never seen the outcome of a full fight. Having them do a three on three would make up for it since the Turtunator vs Pikachu 1 v 1 ship has sailed.

An idea just ocurred to me: Kiawe obtaining a crybaby Cubone and turning it into an agile and badass Alolan Marowak. I don't know why it hasn't happened yet.

Lana and Sophocles can continue with only one Pokemon each. I can't see how another Pokemon would help their stories.

Mallow can obtain another Pokemon, maybe a small cute Grass type to stay on her shoulder since Steenee might evolve again (hopefully).

Kiawe, I think, needs Pokemon the most, because his story is connected with battling the most (out of the classmates). I like the Marowak idea above, that would be amazing and maybe another pokemon so at least he can have a decent 3VS3 battle with Ash.

Lillie - it really depends where the anime story will go. If it goes by the game story, she might need another Pokemon or two. If not, then Shiron would be enough.

From how I see it, the Sun Moon anime is going to last a long time and will have several arcs.

For this school arc, the cast probably wouldn't get any new Pokemon except for Kiawe and Ash since we are building up a rivalry between Ash and Kiawe. Hau could join the story here, maybe as a boy from another class who also has a Pikachu? Otherwise a home schooled character? If he does he would get new Pokemons too. I feel like Hau would really suit all the Alolan regional forms so I'd like it if he gets an Alolan Raichu asap and also an Alolan Marowak.

As we head towards the post graduation arc, I'm guessing that the classmates would move on to become trial captains and they'll get another Pokemon. Meanwhile, Lillie would runaway from home with Nebby. Ash would have to accompany her to protect her in her journey. I don't think they would want Lana to be a travelling companion so that means she would have to surrender Popplio to someone /hints. If Hau wasn't introduced in the school arc then he could be introduced here. Here, Ash, Hau and a certain somebody would get new Pokemons but Lillie would continue with only Vulpix and Nebby.

If a third arc brings us to Kanto, then I can see Lillie getting more Pokemons here. Clefa would be ideal. Bulbasaur as well since Venusaur's flower is such a throwback to her fabulous hat.

This sounds a little ambitious...? The wirters probably want Ash to face every trial and if they do, there is no way we have time for a mini Kanto arc, unless the series is 190+ episodes like DP.
