Do you think Dawn went from “Ms. Know-It All” to a bit more mature 10 year old?

Has she grown up a bit more?

I remember when the series first kicked off; I was impressed by the whole segment on Dawn rather than just jump into Ash’s journey along with the pathetic TR. However, it quickly became clear that Dawn was basically a know-it all and a bit of a brat.

Some moments that pop instantly into my head of when she thought she knew it all include the following:

• When Brock and Ash had no idea what Ball Capsules were or that coordinators had to dress up for contests
• When they didn’t know what Poffins were
• When she butted in on Paul’s Chimchar training in Glory Blaze or in Tag, We’re It! She got into him and Ash’s argument about working together like Cynthia talked about meeting new people
• Ash forgot that he didn’t register for the Sinnoh League in Dawn of a New Era! She said, “Forgot is right…” though how many times has she forgotten to register for contests?

These are only a few, but there were times when the script was flipped and Ash and Brock had to teach her some things:

• She didn’t know what Pokeringer was
• Teaching her electric type how to control its power for its contest debut
• Training for the gym battle with Maylene
• Brock telling her what the BF was

In these instances, Brock and Ash didn’t once try to hold their knowledge over her head. I don’t count her run-ins with Kenny because they are almost like childhood rivals. Though lately she hasn’t shown that attitude, so does anyone think she may have learned her lesson? I haven’t been able to understand the Jap. episodes so if she still has that attitude I wouldn’t know. Oh, and when she basically broke down in the double match with Plusle/Minun, that was her and a childhood nightmare if you will so don’t count that only her “know-it all” moments.

I think she definately has matured. She did seem like a "know it all" at first and now she seems to be a pretty mature character.

I wouldn't call Dawn a know-it-all. She just knew things that Ash and Brock didn't. But I know that she has matured since the start of the journey. Dawn also learned new Pokemon skills from Ash and Brock.

She wasn't actually a "know it all" type rather she was an over-confident type at the start of DP, then after experienced some loss and with the help of her friends and rivals, she has grown more mature

So it's bad to know a few things? o.o Personally, I was impressed that she knew some things at the beginning at her journey.

If anything, I just found her to be kind of over-confident and sure of herself. Not that having determination is bad, but...it's what's made her so deppressed when she had her streak of losses...

And she's had the most character development out of all the characters. It's pretty safe to say that she's grown to be a more mature and experienced coordinator.

Dawn annoyed the heck outta me at the start of DP, but from around mid-way through Battle Dimension, she's started to seem more human, rather than just a spoiled brat.

I don't know about what you're talking about, since I don't tend to watch reruns, but I seem to remember that she once thought that since her mother was a top coordinator, that would automatically make her a skilled coordinator as well. She learned quite the opposite.

Dawn basically started off the total opposite of May.

May started off having no knowledge about anything Pokemon and learned about it through Ash and her rivals. Dawn started off with a Pokemon and Contest background and then her losses brought her down to reality.

I actually think its hilarious how May and Dawn started off differently and ended differently.

I think it was nice to have a character so differnt from May (who knew nothing at all despite her dad being a gym leader >_>). I never thought she as a "know it all." I found it kinda cool that she did her research before starting her journey.

But she might of humbled quite a bit from the series start. I think that losing 3 (was it 3?) contest appeals in a row kinda knocked some sense into her. That's why I feel her contest wins were more justified than May's: it was actually shown she trained really hard for them. I think that she had decent enough character development :D

She lost two appeal rounds in a row, then regained her confidence in the Wallace Cup.

In total, she lost 5 normal contests. (First one to Zoey, two appeal losses, lost to James dressed up as Jessie, lost to Kenny once)

Oh, okay, that makes sense. The wallace cup was a REALLY big win though, I felt it a bit out of place by her recent loses.

IIRC, May never lost an appeal round, did she? That's why I wonder: Why did someone with no knowledge end up being more successful than someone with? It doesn't seem fair XD (though, Dawn did place second in the GF...that's quite an accomplishment)

Yes, at the start of DP, I wanted to punch her, but recently she has matured a lot.

Well, yeah! I don't think her being a know-it-all was a bad thing at all. In fact, that was back when I actually really liked Dawn's character. It was funny how she'd rub everything she knew in Ash and Brock's faces. It's part of what made her an interesting character.

Now that she's matured...I don't like her so much. She bores me. :p

And psst. May had MUCH MORE character development than Dawn. :D

But yeah. Obviously Dawn changed.

I remember when DP first started people seemed to like the fact that Dawn seemingly knew what she was doing.

She did far too well in her first Contest to the point where it seemed like she was an expert coordinator. She even almost beat Zoey in their very first contest battle.

I think the writers realized their mistake with Dawn at the beginning, it seemed like she was going to be a Mary Sue at the start, so they then had her bomb the next two contests to bring her down to reality.

Meh I didn't think she was too bad at the begining.
I loved her personality altogether from begining to end.
She's matured so much..

I still for the life of me can't remeber Dawn being over-confident. What exactly did she say? I certaintly don't remeber her rubbing things in peoples faces.

Watch the first 30 or so DP eps again.

Dawn started off being overconfident and thinking she'd breeze through Contests because of her mother. She also argued with Ash in DP4 about Contests being better than Gyms, and blew up at Paul.

It originally seemed like Dawn was going to have a temper like Misty did, but that disappeared fast. I remember laughing when people called Dawn, "the new Misty" when DP started, as if Dawn was going to argue/bicker among the cast like Misty did.

Lol no thanks, I'm ready for DP to end honestly. Actually the only time I remeber her being over-confident was in the Nando episode since she was so sure she was strong, and she got beaten by Nando. I certaintly don't remeber her saying anything about her saying she's breeze through contest because of her mon..oh well. She seemed to blow up at Paul simply because he didn't remember her name.

But yeah, lol at people calling her the "new Misty". Even though Dawn argued with Ash more than May seemigly. Misty still had the worst temper of them all.

I don't even know where people got that from. Dawn only ever had like one or two big arguments with Ash, and that was very early on in the series. DP4 during Nando's debut, and during that tagbattle filler with Turtwig/Piplup Vs. those twins with the green hair.

Dawn didn't really have a temper to be honest. I can hardly think of any times she got really angry besides those moments and when Paul forgot her name in the Roark Gym.
