Do you Think Heart Gold and Soul Silver will be Westernized?

I finally just got my copy about a week or so ago, and I am enjoying it, but this game is very Japanese. (It really does feel like Japan in more ways than just the towers and how people talk) It reminded me a lot of something that I forgot, the first games were, I believe, Americanized with the buildings made more western and the like. I think this will be more difficult because it seems even more Japanese than the original Gold and Silver.

So basically, what I'm asking is do you think they will do things like swap out the HGSS buildings for DPPt ones, and maybe change some of the music, or will they leave it the same? (Which is rather different for Nintendo, they're really not one for taking chances)

I personally think they'll leave it the same, but I think it'll be surprising to many who played the original.

I'm sure this may have been discussed, but I didn't see anything on the first page, and pretty much avoided this form for favor of less spoiler exposure. (But if it has, what's the general consensus?)

They better not, the traditional Japanese tracks are the best part, and it wouldn't be Johto without the pagodas. What I wonder is if PUSA will remember they switched Phanpy and Teddiursa.

I can't see why they would do it this late into the franchises life.

I don't believe Nintendo of America does that much censoring, especially that sort, anymore.

Other then the normal censoring they do, they won't do anything else.

So Ecruteak City will be changed to a massive Donut store?

It's a fantasy world. They can leave it as it is and not alienate any players. I'm sure the most changes will be ones Misty mentioned.

If they do, they'll find angry fans pelting them with Onigiri... I mean jelly donuts.

I don't think PUSA (TPCI) actually do the games. Only everything else. I mean ages ago I remember them saying that they had to wait to find out some event items and the way they stated it they had to wait for someone else to send the news over to them to announce. I suspect Nintendo of Americadoes the games though I could be wrong.

Anyway as for the topic. I think there's a small chance though not a large one. I remember someone saying ages ago that the originals were a tad sensored in the sense that a few japanese characters apparently looked a little different or something. I could be wrong because I only heard this from someone else. I don't have the japanese original copies. Just japanese soul silver.

If Nintendo of America or whoever is translating is smart though they'd know that kids these days are being born into anime which is mainstream now which is a different situation years ago where American was more dominant in the cartoon industry. they seemed to have evened out so to speak.

Kids are use to japanese stuff well in my country they are that's for sure. So I'd expect other places are like that aswell. So these being sensored would not be a smart move however I would not be surprised if they were if that one person I talked to was telling the truth about the originals. Though as said I could be wrong.

The Sage and Medium Buddhist prayer beads and... those white magic candle thingies are gonna get the boot. Especially since it looks like the Sage is compelling you. And the Medium honestly creeps me out. Swimmer's Speedo will be changed to trunks, and I have NO idea what'll become of the Kimono Girls.

I hope the "Whoops, dropped my balls!" line won't be edited out in EITHER version, too. xD

Like bell02+ said, I think since this psuedo-3D thing is a trend for all the games, (and from the screenshots I've seen) Saffron looks extremely more like Tokyo than in FRLG, especially Silph Co. (Which I believe is based off the TBS Broadcasting station) which is now towering. But I really think we need this. SOMETHING to simulate Japanese culture which... the anime DIScourages.

No buildings were ever edited.

I think I know what the other guy is talking about, and I think they were very early magazine scan images that were never in the final game that he may be referring to

Probably they will just make it like the original us release of GS.
The only main edit was jynx (it was unedited in the Japanese version), but then they changed it in later japanese pokemon games.

We already have swimmers in Speedos, no sense changing it now. The Kimono Girls were in the original and I don't think they'll change the Buddhist symbolism either.

I beg to differ.

A special spot on the fifth floor has been made into a wild Pokémon-free healing area. In the original games, the Channeler next to it makes a reference to white magic about it. This was edited out in later games.

Changing the design of some buildings and the style of music isn't censorship, it's just localisation.

The buildings won't change, since they never have before. Has the music changed in the past?

As for the actual censorship (a.k.a things in the above post). It could go either way. Because the Pokemon games have started all this Shinto stuff now (whereas that was ages ago), so...

Nintendo lets the ESRB deal with any "offensive" materials.

Gen III used the Speedo sprites...

Yeah, but DPPt's was basically a crotch shot with a Speedo about seven pixels in area. Gen III's were at least like, normal looking.

I mean, in Gen II they edited out the Bikini Lady WINKING. Suddenly a girl in a bikini winking is offensive?

It seriously SCREAMS "edit."
