Do you think people will ever stop thinking that the games are based off the anime?

It seems that most non-Pokemon fans, and quite a number of Pokemon fans(usually younger ones), believe the games are based off the anime.
That's due to Nintendo of Americas, or was it 4kids, decision to air the anime before the games came out.

Do you think, in time, this will wear off? Or, is it irreversible?

Actually, red and green were out before the anime.
I doubt it. The anime is far more advertised, and a lot easier to get into.

I don't think it has much of anything to do with the air date. Aside from a lot of people who probably don't even remember how the franchise was that long ago, the anime mostly aired on local channels before being picked up by Kids WB. Also, the anime, card game, manga, toy lines, and of course the video games' North American debuts were all in rather close proximity of each other (probably no more than a month off, I bet). Really, I'd say it's a matter of the popularity in general, and the fact that the franchise has easily extended into quite the multi-media beast (unlike, say, Mario, which is a franchise still firmly rooted in and well-known for video gaming). At this point, it's probably mostly just gamers and general Pokemon fans (and maybe people who saw news reports ten years ago that discussed where the franchise started) who are likely to associate the games as the core of this franchise with the rest of the media basically serving as its advertisement.

Yes, they first aired the anime a week before the games. But, who cares?

I was one of the fools that believed that the game was based off of the Anime. I soon realized the game was so much more dynamic than the Anime... I never named my character Ash though.... this is supposed to be my story and not Ash's.

It really annoys me when people think the games are based off the anime. Especially once you've explained it SO MANY TIMES. But anyway no, I think some people might still think its based off the games.. >_>

My mom is one of those people, I think. Then again, she calls the anime "Pikachu", and calls everyone in the cast "Pikachu".

In America, video games based on cartoons are far more common than cartoons based on video games, so for someone who is unfamiliar with either medium of Pokémon, it's an understandable mistake to make. Plus a random person is more likely to encounter the cartoon flipping through channels than they are to encounter the games, which would require going to a video game store.

Yeah a Bakugan game is also coming out so that kinda relates to what Sleet is saying

i don't think so. to this day, non pokemon fans still think of pokemon as that tv show. an example is like this

"hey, this guy still likes pokemon"

"yeah, i bet he even remembers the theme song"

and it's kind of annoying too when people assume that. i can see where they're coming from, since a lot of us were first introduced to pokemon as an anime (me being one of those). sometimes i wonder if there are people that were introduced to the games first.

Lol my dad used to call it Pikachu until my sister said(who is not a fan of pokemon) the show its called pokemon and the main character is pikachu.

Pfft, probably not.

Everyone always (and only) thinks of the anime whenever the word "Pokemon" comes up. It irritates me to now end, then again most of those people are the "ist season was teh best everything past that suxors!!" and haven't even watched seasons passed that. Yes, I know that it was popular back in the day, but the games and the TCG were popular. Especially TCG, I'm surprised no one talks about. I don't expect anyone to know anything about the mangas. You know what's even more ridiculous? Some people don't even know that the video games actually exist.

"Yeah, I only liked the TCG. I never liked the show blablabla!"
"What about the games? -_-"
"There were video games?"

I kinda doubt they will...... they've been doing this for years, so why wouldn't they stop?

I used to think the anime as first... but it was the first thing of the franchise I was introduced to when I was little...

When I hear the word "Pokemon" the anime always comes to mind... and I've watched it all and I continue to. No shame in that.

So yes, most people will still think of the anime first.

yes I seem to find a lot of people make fun of others for liking shows like Pokemon and Bakugan

I thought this before, only because Ruby/Sapphire game came out the exact same day the Advanced Gen anime aired in Japan, so because I never really knew much about the games before then, except for Pokemon Yellow which was based of the anime, I thought this way. But now I have learned some things.

The anime takes the region, its gym leaders/major characters/events and pokemon and they are used in the anime as a plot for Ash's journey and the other chatacters that will appear. Movies are made based on this too. This is a marketing tool for games, if anything the anime has proved this in the past few months with HGSS advertising appearing quite a bit.

Sadly, I think kids will continue to believe this, at least until someone yells at them how wrong they are. This kind of kid used to be me.
