Do you think Red looks older in HGSS?

I've heard quite a few people say he looks the same. However to me he looks taller and leaner in his battle sprite.

In GSC however he looks like he aged a few months, to a year tops. He looks like a twelve year old, not a fourteen year old.

Well, they did get lazy smart with the limited space they had on the Game Boy and use the sprite they already had from Yellow mirrored, so he wouldn't look too much older. But yes, I'd say he looks a good couple o' years older in HGSS from FRLG.

it's not even him Okay, I'll try to stop doing that. OTL

Yes, he looks much older. D: Nothing compared to the Viridian Gym leader, though. Dear god, he looks about 20-ish.

Yeah, in FRLG he looks about twelve/thirteen-ish, whereas in HGSS he looks like fifteen/sixteen.

What this guy said.

About the one in HGSS, I guess I could say he's a bit older. But he still looks the same.... does he ever change his clothes???

Not necceserily, game time is very strange.

He's eleven in RGBY/ FRLG according to the manual for RGBY. He's fourteen in HGSS/ GSC.

He's been on that mountain for a while, right? Didn't his mom and Daisy (at least his mom) say how he has broken ties with people. He probably never changed his clothing. Or just bought a new version of it, since he is older.

..Maybe Leaf bought them for him. Ken has drawn her in a snow area in her two non-main offical arts..

Yea, let's not talk about her.

We can tell Misty aged because they gave her hips and changed her hair.

We can see that Brock is older because he's lankier, and looks a bit more comfortable in his own skin than he did before. Same could be said for Sabrina (she definitely dresses like she's less uptight).

Blaine lost his hair, but I can't remember if he had it in FRLG, so whatever.

Janine isn't Koga. That's all there is to that.

Erika and Surge haven't changed that much, but that's because they have a style that is defined by their clothing: Erika's the girl in the kimono, Surge is the soldier. Plus, they're adults in their prime—three years is not going to have a huge effect, visually speaking.

Fuck Blue (I'll come back to that).

But Red is not a character: he's an icon, an avatar. Worse, he's a silent avatar. He is there purely to be recognized, and he wouldn't be recognized if he looked drastically different from his last appearance. That's how they screwed up with Blue: he doesn't look much older either, but they could have changed anything and as long as he had that hair and said "Smell ya later", we would know it was him. So no, I don't think Red looks any older, but then I don't think he could've.

EDIT: Just looked at Blue. They did change him. My bad. Still, he fits in the same category as Brock and Sabrina.

I think he does look like he was older...and a bit more mysterious...still doesn't say much of anything

It's really hard to tell, especially since the clothes are the same. His face does seem a *bit* more mature--or weathered, at least--but that might just also be the increased sprite resolution. The FRLG intro sprite there also looks older than the trainer card sprite. :p

I think he does looks a bit older. Not much though. It's hard to tell with his face obscured and stuff.

I'm pretty sure the only reason he looks older is because he appears to be taller, thanks to the bigger trainer sprite area, which didn't happen from RBGY --> GSC.

Putting him next to Hibiki shows him to be 4 pixels taller, so I guess they did make him taller, it just looks more drastic in comparison to his FRLG sprite because that sprite is already about 8 pixels shorter than Gen4's protagonists' sprites (who would be about the same age).

edit: made a little thing in photoshop showing the pixel height difference. :p

Comparing FRLG's sprite to Gen IV sprites doesn't work that way, however, because the sprite size limits are different. 64x64 in Gen III, 80x80 in Gen IV (sans animations).

To me he looks all the same.
