Do you think that Nyasu/Meowth can teach other Pokemon how to talk like a human?

You know, I've been wondering that for a while.

Meowth is the only Pokemon in the anime currently that can talk like a human (Slowking doesn't count since it's a movie Pokemon, and telepathy not either, altho I have a feeling that another talking Pokemon in one episode). He learned it by himself.

Do you think he could do that with other Pokemon? How long would that take? How? etc.

EDIT: Fix'd the thread name

Perhaps, but it took a long time for him to do it, it would take just as long for anyone else, and there is the consequence that he can't learn any more moves due to it. It'd be a serious risk.

"Do you think that Nyasu/Meowth can teach other Pokemon how to talk like a human?"

Sure, it would be interesting. But which Pokemon would he teach though? Or would he give talking lessons to the whole group? XD

Re: Do you think that Nyasu/Meowth can learn other Pokemon how to talk like a human?

I'm pretty sure he could by using the same methods he used to learn how to talk himself. I guess it would be a "How to talk like a human 101" class or something.

Re: Do you think that Nyasu/Meowth can learn other Pokemon how to talk like a human?

Can teach, not "learn," and yes; it is a possibility if a pokemon regularly interacts with humans or attempts to mimic human speech.

The only drawback to Meowth learning how to speak like a human was that he did not have enough time or skill to learn Pay Day, the signature attack of its species. Of course, assuming the learning pokemon already knows the majority of its attacks, this should not be too much of an issue. It just so happened that this Meowth was not accustomed to battling.

Well, the Pokemon would mimic him if they would want to, but maybe does it take too long before a Pokemon can say : "I am going to capture Pikachu".

They also could freely express their feelings to their trainers.

I can imagine a Pokemon being jealous of Meowth's ability to talk, but wasn't there a quote in the anime that stated that Meowth couldn't evolve because it can talk? Or had that to do with moves like Ampharos King said.

I think he probably could teach others if they were dedicated enough. While Nyasu taught himself, I think I remember him saying that it took a lot of effort to be able to accomplish it. I guess that it would take less time for another Pokémon to learn with Nyasu teaching them.

Instead of getting rich by stealing something, he could get rich by teaching human speech to pokemon and charge the trainer

Or he can just become rich by keeping his skill exclusive and doing some talk shows.

Personally, I don't think any other poke can learn speech even if meowth teaches them.
I don't think they would be passionate enough to learn.

How so? I bet Pikachu would love to be able to communicate with Ash if he had the chance to learn to do so.

Meh, Pikachu can communicate in its own language.
THIS IS FROM BULBAPEDIA:

Pikachu's language

Some of Pikachu's speech is consistent enough that it seems that some phrases actually mean something. (In Stealing The Conversation, Team Rocket refers to this language as "PikaSpeak," however, this most likely isn't official.) For instance, Pikachu always uses "Pikapi" when referring to Ash (notice that it sounds somewhat similar to "Satoshi"). Other speech includes:

Pi-Kachu: He says this during the sponsor spots in the original Japanese.
Pikachu-Pi: Kasumi (Misty)
Pika-Chu: Takeshi (Brock)
Pikaka: Hikari (Dawn)
PiPiPi: Togepi (Togepi)
PikakaPika: Fushigidane (Bulbasaur)
PikaPika: Zenigame (Squirtle) or Mukuhawk (Staraptor) or Goukazaru (Infernape) or Gamagaru (Palpitoad)
Pi-kachu: Pochama (Piplup)
PiPi-kachu: Rocket-dan (Team Rocket).
Pi-Pikachu: Get da ze! He says this after Ash wins a badge, catches a new Pokémon or anything similar.

And ash and pikachu's bond is so deep that they can understand each other anyway.

You can only go so far with three syllables...

And I'm not just talking about Pikachu, I'm talking about the rest of his Pokemon, and everyone elses.

Could you imagine what the anime would be like if all Pokemon could talk?

Oh right, then it'd become Pokemon Pocket Monsters. Or Magical Pokemon Journey...

Didn't Shu from Get Da Ze have a device that made him able to communicate with his Pikachu? Pocket Monsters and the anime are pretty similar, except PM is far more gag based and not serious at all.

..Off-topic, but why can't Meowth learn Pay Day? I've never got how speaking has ruined his ability to fight.

It hasn't. He's just bad at fighting because he spent so much time teaching himself to talk instead of improving his battling skills.

That's the one thing that always bothered me, is that Meowth had to forget Pay Day in order to talk, it's as if speaking English was a move when it isn't, WHAT THE HECK WRITERS!?

It could always be retconned. They could say that Meowth only thought it was incapable of learning any more moves, when it actually could with the help of a trainer and some hard work.

Agreed, especially since the writers are trying their hardest to not use any plotlines from previous sagas in order to keep the show fresh for newer viewers. In the rumors of Iris catching Meowth are true, then we might see Meowth actually battle for once instead of Jessie and James sending out their own Pokemon despite Meowth being basically the Pikachu of Team Rocket...

It kinda reminds me of Cassandra Cain's (formerly Batgirl, now Blackbat) initial muteness in comics. She never learned to speak growing up, instead learning to read others' body language as easily as most people can read words. But after a telepath "rewired her brain" and she worked with Alfred on her speech, she can now speak normally in addition to her amazing ability to read body language.

Maybe if the Pokemon were dedicated enough to learn then it might be possible. But of course, the Pokemon would really have to work hard with Meowth.
