Since the very first season, do you think the amount of shipping in the anime has increased or decreased through the following seasons? Has it remained consistent, including the filler character romances in addition to the main characters?

Or do you think the writers have turned away from serious shipping in recent years? Or on the other hand, has it increased?

Well personaly I think it decreased. Misty hit on Ash ALOT, and now well she's gone. Also Team Rocket doesn't act so um..whats the word..flirty? lol they did back then.

It increased a ton in Orange, decreased in Johto, increased in Hoenn a bit but not quite up to original levels, increased a LOT in BF and has now decreased again. Wheeeeeee.

I haven't noticed any change in the amount character of the day ships. Other than the general sparceness of Johto, it depended on whatever big ship the writers were doing.

PokéShipping picked up in Orange, though Brock wasn't around then which cancels things out. :p It returned for the Silver Conference with some exposure in the hosos until shortly after Drew turned up. ContestShipping had the rose scenes, then Drew disappeared for a while until the writers decided they could push it further in BF. DP has mainly been without it so far but the main ship has probably had its start by now.

She did? I thought Misty rarely hit on Ash and the only time it was made apparent was when other people noticed her crush.

I'm also "baffled" by how you only list a Misty ship as if its the only romance we've had in the anime. Do the years 2002-2007 mean anything to you?

The oh so obvious shippy in Hoenn was ContestShipping. So I would have to say it has increased. I think this is the first real shipping that the writers paid a lot of attention to ( and no, I personally don't think PokeShipping counts because it was a one way love/crush ).

We still get filler character romance. Any kind of Rocketshippy hints have greatly decreased though.. It's rather sad, but Jessie and James have also developed very well as characters. You now see Jessie as an aspiring coordinator and James pays most of his attention to his Chimecho/Mime Jr.

She hit on Ash ALOT... with her mallet. :D

Did you even read her whole post? She also mentioned Rocketshipping.

As for me, I'm of the same opinion as Jo-Jo. Though I guess it's too early to judge the level of shippyness in DP.

I know this thread is meant to be about the shipping that appears on the show, but when you think about it, the amount of shipping in the series depends on where the fans are. Eight years ago I would've told you Ash and Misty loved each other and were meant to be, because omg, "Misty's Song" proved everything and omg, Pokémon 2000 had so many hints, and omg, Misty loooves Ash so much because she said they were gonna get married and that a kiss would change them and omg, there's a banned episode that proves everything about their love. I also would've told you there were hints in every single episode to date, including AG.

But eight years later, PokéShipping doesn't even registry to me.

The amount of "shipping hints" has also been the results of what fans would've liked to have seen. Granted, ContestShipping was probably the first romance that was canon, meant to be canon, and accepted as canon (<3 to it). I would've been able to compile a 30 page list of all the hints of PokéShipping back when I was younger, now I can give you about -39.40. Character interactions have changed, most notably between Jessie and James and Ash and Gary, but that doesn't mean Rocket/PalletShipping was ever canon, or meant to be canon in the future. It's just the way the series grew and fans grew with it, realizing one way or the other not everything could be considered a hint. (And if you asked me to point out a PokéShipping 'hint' in Indigo now, I would be too distracted by GymShipping 'hints' to even realize the first.)

If anyone thinks the "shippingness" decreased in Pokémon, it's only because they have grown up and aren't gullible to the idea two characters looking at each other means they love each other.

However, canonly, I think the writers never really attempted to touch upon romance between characters, other than May and Drew. I don't believe there ever was a lot of "shippingness" in the series to begin with, so that means, relating to the canon of the show shippingness increased because of ContestShipping.

Scott. I also talked about Rocketshipping. It has also decreased because in Hoenn, there was really only Contestshipping, and thats gone too, for now. We will have to see how things turn out with Dawn. You me think I'm a big Pokeshipper, but I'm not. I talk about Misty, and Pokeshipping, because Ash and Misty are my fave characters. If I had to choose a ship, it would be Contestshipping. I hope to see more of it in the future :D

Jo-Jo took the words right outta my head.

It's not really that way with Rocketshipping, it DID change though. Just pop in an older episode and compare with almost any one of the latest episodes. Totally different.

Not only where Jessie and James closer, but they did much more funnier things too :p

I agree. It's gone back and fourth. Sometimes it increases and sometimes it decreases. There was tones of pokeshipping moments in the orange islands but a lot less in Johto and then it picked up a bit in Hoenn with the release of contestshipping and really increased in BF but there isn't as much so far in the DP series.

Why is there another thread that is nearly identical to this one? I'll quote from my post there:
The way I see it:

Kanto was average. Orange Islands increased the shipping with Poké. Then it decreased to practically zero during Johto.

Shipping went WAY up in AG with Contest (higher than Orange) and seems to have hit its peak there. After AG, we have DP.

Shipping has decreased a lot since AG. There are more possibilities in DP, with Penguin, Ikari, Heattag, Twinleaf, SapphirePearl, Morpheus...you name it, it has it, but far less "hints". Not as few as Johto, but less than Kanto.

Overall, I believe shipping has decreased in the show.

That's what I thought exacly. The "show" is the same as the TV-show or the anime, right? Maybe it's time to move one thread to another, to prevent two identical topics existing alongside?

This thread should probably be locked since there's a more recent thread about the same subject. Though it's amusing how Scott made both of them.

But since Rocketshipping was brought up in this thread, I may as well address it. While fearhugs and like the like were obviously more prevalent in Kanto, I have to say that Musashi and Kojiro are much closer now than they were back in Kanto. They are much better developed characters now, and I think DP117 shows how much stronger their bond has become over the years. (There's also Kojiro not having a problem with Musashi using Manene in contests now) The physical stuff has given way to substance, and I'll take that trade off any day of the week.

But since these posts were from 2007, I can't blame anyone for what they posted. Aside from the Hoso (which was only a flashback) AG was a dead zone for Rocketshipping. It seems the writers are now starting to fix some of the mistakes they made with the ship back in AG.

i dont this a lot of shipping is between the main chars cuz of their relative age of 10ish.. love is usually to the adults like romeo and juliet in the anime, oscar and um that girl, butler and diane etc. Main character romance usually happens in manga which is to a older audience, -> hoennshipping, oldrival and lucky shipping etc.
