Do you think the Darkrai trainer getting no screentime is a chance Ash might win?

Every time Ash lost to a rival in the league, those characters at least got screentime/intro eps and became Ash's friends.

Ash and Richie had an entire episode together, Harrisson helped Ash get the torch back from that Sneasel, and Tyson had a great friendship with Ash and co. and even got backstory about his Meowth in boots.

This Darkrai trainer is getting nothing. If Ash loses to him, it does nothing to show that the series is about making friends and striving to do your best, which is what Richie/Harrisson/Tyson were about.

We know nothing about his personality, he hasn't even talked to Ash once, and he's getting no real backstory. Could they really have Ash lose to a guy like this?

I suppose it does seem to be the case that most of the League trainers Ash has lost to in the past were given some screentime prior to the battle where they beat him.

Does this guy even have any Pokemon besides Darkrai? According to Bulbapedia, it's said that he got his 8 badges and made it this far in the League using Darkrai alone... so is it possible he's just that cocky a bastard, that he never bothered raising any other Pokemon to be strong enough to compete at the League?

He obviously has other Pokemon as he's going to be in a 6 on 6 against Ash. As said though, we know nothing else about him.

I think probably not. The lack of screentime seems like an effort to make him seem 'mysterious' and 'intriguing'.
Then again, he could maybe be a character in the BW animé..

No, I just see it as a quick way for Ash to loose.
I'd like Ash to at least take out one of the guys Pokemon.
I can see maybe 1 out of 3 Pokemon of his being taken out.
It will be like what happened in Jhoto. Only faster, cuz they want to move on with this series LOL.

People have been assuming this guy has Darkrai, Entei, Lucario... They've been speculating from the opening sequence.

They also think it's Lucian.

Overall, I don't know if this pattern is just a coincidence.

If anything, the fact they insist to make him so "cool" and "mysterious" probably means he'll beat Ash... it's pretty obvious

What lesson does this teach to young kids?

No, just no.

That growing you hair long, scowling and being mysterious gets you further ahead in life.

Somehow this trainer annoys me more than Richie already. Wow, they really do have a habit of pulling Canon sue's out of thin air, don't they?

I would wait until the battle before making your mind up. But, yes, he does seem to be going this way. Here's hoping they'll make him a tad more interesting than that.

The very fact that he has a legendary already makes it obvious.

Even if Ash beats the Darkrai and loses to one of his other pokemon, its still the mere fact this "mysterious guy" came out of nowhere with a legendary.

If Ash does lose to him, I hope he can at least take down Darkrai itself before losing to another of the trainer's Pokemon.

Why didn't I see this thread sooner? It is clearly a last ditch attempt at finding a way that Ash can win. As others have said, it is pretty obvious that he shall lose to this trainer.

Why would Ash lose to a sinister looking guy, who is not his friend, who hasn't even spoke to him, using a Darkrai (a Dark Pokemon no less) in a league?

Its almost like Ash losing to a "villain" of sorts. This is how DP is to end?
