Do you think the games sometimes borrow things from the Pokemon Manga and Anime?

Not really sure where to put this one :sweatlol:

Anyways, sometimes it feels like to me that the games occasionally borrow from side media, such as the Anime and Manga(s).
Here's a few examples I caught:

#1: Leaf's Design
Leaf is probably based on the unreleased 1st generation girl. Then again, they claimed Lyra wasn't based on Kris, so who knows? Supposing that she was based on this unreleased character, however, I noticed this:

The original character doesn't appear to have the hair flip that Leaf does in FRLG.
Who does, however, is none other than Blue in Pokemon Adventures/Special, who is a counterpart of the unreleased character.
#2: Silver's Background (Spoilers from FRLG)
Some time ago, an HGSS event featuring Celebi was announced. In it, you found out that Giovanni is Silver's father.
However, this had previously been decided much earlier by Pokemon Adventures/Special in 2007, during the FRLG chapter.
Of course, I could be completely, utterly mistaken in thinking this, but it's a thought I had.

Yes. Red's Pikachu in HG/SS also shares the same moves as Ash's Pikachu:
-Thunderbolt
-Quick Attack
-Iron Tail
-Volt Tackle

Leaf's hair is as similar to her original concept art as it is to Blue's in special. If they borrowed her hair design from Blue, then her hair wouldn't have also been redesigned to look more similar to her FrLg work. The hair flip in the game artwork isn't exactly the same as the one in the manga. The way the hair was shaped was more probably due to the fact that, when the hair is cut short, it is basically the redesigned Red.

Which in itself had already been referenced by Scientist Gideon in the games that the manga arc was named after.

Like Reyairia said, pokemon yellow was based solely on the anime. Even gym leaders like Lt. Surge had only one pokemon to mimic the anime. Same also goes for pikachu following you, being able to obtain all 3 starters, and jessie and james appearing.

Quite an over-exaggeration as it was basically the original games with a lot of Anime influence in it. Besides, Yellow was released before the Kanto saga ended which meant they couldn't give Blaine his anime team and the overall plot is still that of the game's.

If its already been said, what's the point of repeating it?

Because I feel like repeating it. Also, even if it was an exaggeration it was still based on the anime to a certain extent.

Which I didn't deny so I don't see the point your making.

The recolouration of some sprites and official artwork in HgSs like Gligar and Tyrogue were definitely influenced by their Anime colouration.

what?? the game borrows things from the other media of the same thing? who would have thought...

The games are the source material for the anime so it would be rare for it to incorporate anime stuff into its canon.

my point remains the same. games / anime taking things from one another, when made by the same people is not a mystical thing.

in this case, leaf being based on an older un-released version for a gen.1 girl isnt a big surprise. it makes sense to go back and use artwork that wasnt used before.

I've seen a few anime references, but from what I've read of the manga, it seems to me as though Yellow version was more based on Electric Tale of Pikachu rather than the anime (Oak catching Pikachu and giving it to the player instead of just receiving it, your rival is confirmed to have started with an Eevee, Sabrina is an older teen instead of a small child, you battle Giovanni in Viridian city instead of those Team Rocket n00bs, finding Manky early in the game, the guy with the Charmander just gives it away instead of being abusive) and the only references to the anime are the way you aquire Bulbasaur, and those two Team Rocket n00bs in "elite" uniforms. The anime references are far and few overall (thank god).

Except that didn't happen in Electric Tale. In there, Ash caught Pikachu when it was nomming the wires in his house. He didn't meet Oak until the Clefairy chapter.

Anyway, I seem to recall that the anime invented double battles, with Luana in the Orange League. And the anime likely invented the concept of Shadow Pokemon that got two games based on it, back in the fourth movie with Dark Balls (the concept also shows up in DPA with Charon's mind control chips).

...and I have a pet theory that Wally is based on Peanut from Magical Pokemon Journey.

Game Freak does not make the anime.

my god your dense..

nintendo owns the rights to all pokemon media. common sense says they have a say in what goes on in each aspect. otherwise the game and anime would not share any similarities.

**edit
even though wizards of the coast owns the card game, the pokemon games added moves from the cards to the game. which proves my point. nintendo can add things to any one of their products from any other.

kthxbye

The entire existence of Pokemon Yellow was in promotion of the anime, in which Pikachu was your starting pokemon, that followed you outside of its pokeball, and one of the major Rockets you fight were Jessie and James, with their Meowth, Ekans, Koffing and whatnot

It subtly continued with Gold and Silver, in which Red's pokemon seem to be based on his alter-ego in the anime, having an unevolved Pikachu as his lead and all three Kanto starter pokemon.

So, I have no question in my mind as to whether or not Game Freak borrows aspects of the anime. They did.

I believe it was more Red from Pokémon Special then Satoshi from the animé for GS.
