Do you think there should be bonus exp depending on your remaining HP?

Sometimes, we have really exciting battles where we have a close win. The moment when we are hit by a super effective attack, and our HP just barely stops in the Red Zone, giving us a chance to counter and win.

Should there be bonus exp depending on your remaining HP?

Personally, I think there should be something like Survival Bonuses. I mean, let's say you survived with 1 HP. It DOES happen, but not very often. AND you're almost on the verge of fainting. Surely you earned that?



Of course, people could abuse this. They could deliberately get their pokemon poisoned and have them survive the poisoning with 1 HP. Then, they'd go into the grass where pokemon with lower levels appear so they can gain the extra survival bonuses.

Still, now that exp is based on levels, I think those extra bonuses could be good as well. What do you think?
 
Maybe if it was for some special battle facility like the Battle Frontier or something, but for regular battles like wild Pokémon encounters...I'm sorry to say this but, NO. :thumbd: (Because seeing Pokémon low on health makes me sad, idk why.)

For E4 battles and the like, yes please. I've had my share of nail biter type wins; getting a Survival Bonus would be pretty sweet and make the battle a bit sweeter. Or a bit more worth the trouble. (Man, with as many times as I've done that with my poor Golurk, Riser--he should have gotten a blasted medal for Survival Tactics or something.)
 
There should be bonus EXP based on the type matchup between two Pokemon. Not sure if it has a slimmer chance of being abused like your idea of bonus EXP based on your current HP.

How easily that could be abused depends on the type of Pokemon involved (nearly all water-types have access to ice-type moves, but only some fire types can get grass-type moves, for example), but it's still abusable. It also puts some species at a disadvantage when it comes to gaining EXP compared to others, which seems like a bad idea.

I like the HP idea, But then we'd have to remove Focus sash or whatever its called that leaves you on 1hp... It'd be abused if not.

I'd think that almost nobody in their right mind (at least, those who I know) would try this for the sake of EXP gain, especially Nuzlockers.

That brings me to my main topic point: Nuzlocke players would definitely disapprove of the system - because if the change went into effect, it might mean that we have to see a lower EXP yield than before in general at full health. Not good news for Nuzlocke players who wish to level grind, because if their Pokémon were on the verge of death they would probably try to flee rather than engaging in a potential battle that could take the Pokémon down for good.

I think the OP is trying to say that you get bonus points for levelling up while your hp is down. It may not mean that the mon gets lower exp if he is at high health. Just that he gets a bonus for a close win.

I guess my mentality is that to balance this out, they'd lower the EXP yield for using a supereffective move to finish off the foe, in terms of the suggestion I replied to first.
For my mentality of the EXP bonus at low health, the mentality there is that they would not attempt this during a Nuzlocke Run because there's simply too much risk involved considering the rules of a Nuzlocke. Sure, it might get them to think, but IMO it's just way too big of a risk to be effective in the long run.
 
Because poison damage outside of battle has been removed in Gen V, the only way to abuse this would be through the Focus items and the improved Sturdy. I actually think this could work since Focus Sashes/Bands are rare outside Battle Frontier-style locations and most Pokemon with Sturdy being weak to at least one Multi-hit move. Priority moves could also scrape a win against something faster than your close-to-fainting Pokemon.
 
Still, surviving with 1HP isn't something everyone can do. Sure there are Focus Sash/Bands, but who knows - your opponent could use a Quick Attack the next turn and make you faint.

Seeing that there's more of a chance of losing than winning, I think survival bonuses should be allowed.
