Do you think there will be another Pokémon movie?

The last Pokémon feature film released was Koko/Secrets of the Jungle six years ago, and to this day we have heard nothing about any plans for the next movie. I was secretly hoping the recent Pokémon Presents would break the silence, but that didn't happen.

Regardless of whether it's animated or live-action, do you think there will be another Pokémon movie? What are your reasons as to why The Pokémon Company decided to stop releasing films?

i don't think it's that likely at this point but i honestly want another pokemon anime movie more then anything. the ones released in gens 2-4 were huge parts of my childhood and very emotionally significant to me and i'd love for pokemon to return to releasing stuff like that again.

I think we might eventually see a new movie, but I don't expect them to go back to releasing 3 o 4 movies per generation.

Oooh I would love to see a new Pokemon movie, IIRC they still release Doraemon and Conan movies annually so its a little sad that the annual Pokemon movie had stopped. :c

Not that they released any of the AniPoke movies in theaters widely for the international market after Heroes I think? Anyway, I prefer seeing movies in theaters so if they were to release another Pokemon movie here I'd love to see it on the big screen. :enzap:

I sure hope so. I'm actually surprised that they stoped making them. Was Koko poorly received or something? I remember seeing trailers for it constantly so they definitely went in on the marketing, but I guess maybe covid had an effect on it or something? I really don't remember. The last movie I saw was Kimi ni Kimeta, I saw it together with my now-wife and we had a great time.

I just hope they don't make any more live action movies. Detective Pikachu was awful.

Don't forget Shin-chan. Also Anpanman for the little ones.

There will definitely be another Pokemon movie at some point. The franchise is too profitable for there not to be. It will probably be its own self-contained story like Detective Pikachu, though. I think we've seen the end of the "Anime movieverse" series, though I don't particularly know why.

No. They clearly scrapped the movies and we are likely to not see another Pokemon 'anime' movie ever again.

Live-action? Who knows. Detective Pikachu 2 is in an unknown state and there were rumors of a 'live-action' Netflix show that is also in an unknown state (if it ever existed in the first place)

Live-action Pokemon seems inevitable but whether it'll be good... time will tell and it will be subjective like everything else is clearly.

I would pay them money to not make these.

What's funny though is that the "live action" stuff is still animated.

Detective Pikachu 2 is likely cancelled, we haven't heard anything in around 2 years and nowadays TPCi only goes for projects that are sure bets. The idea might be revived eventually but likely as an spin-off or as a different take on live action Pokemon, I'm sure TPCi has a long list of requirements to meet before giving the rights away to anyone.

As for the animated ones, I think 2027 is the trial of fire as it's the 30th anniversary of the main anime. I constantly think back to my "Pokemon the Movie: Rocket" and "Pokemon the Movie: Ash" ideas as goodbyes to the characters that everyone would like to see and that would certainly break the Internet. Also, them suddenly breaking a sacred rule and aging Ash...oh boy, that would be HYPE. But I'm not getting my hopes up, I hope they use this extra year before Gen 10 to figure themselves out and gives us something we really wanna see, though to be honest I'd watch anything as long as it revives the movies.

I suppose we could see another movie in the future... buuuuttttt I'm certain it'd be another live-action Hollywood production and not an anime film since they seem to be all but done.

I'm certain they may no longer find it profitable to continue making the anime stuff and also Ash no longer being the protagonist may play a factor. Plus we're already on a movie-esque adventure with Horizons so making a film around it would probably end up being redundant.

Honestly I feel a movie would be the best way to wrap up Ash’s journey. Then at the end of it, he gets marries (hopefully to Serena) but I’m not sure if we’ll ever get another Pokemon movie. Plus I think it wouldn’t be released in theaters. It’d most likely go direct to a streaming service.

Sadly, I feel like the era of Pokemon movies has come and gone. I don't think we'll ever get another one for the main series anime. Maybe there could be a chance we could see some sort of Pokemon movie made by Netflix. But, I just don't think it's likely to happen anymore.

Wow, I'm out of the loop! I thought they were regularly still releasing movies like they did before. But you're right, there hasn't been one for a while!

I know there has to be one at some point for sure. Maybe they're just taking a break from them for a while since they made so many of them. But since Pokémon is one of the biggest franchises, there will definitely be another movie some time. I'm not sure when though

Abandoning what minimal continuity there was, hurt more than it seems. In the earlier movies, Ash's team and companions maintained a nod to the show.

Then the studio suddenly went "nope!" and decided Alola shall never be depicted on the silver screen. The inside story of the meeting about that would be a tale for the ages, among Pokemon fans anyway.
