I think so. I recently watched the preview of the episode she appears in and she had a speaking role. I feel she had a lot of potential to become a rival for Hikari/Dawn.

What do you think? Discuss.
 
I have a feeling that we will see her again in the Grand Festival. I doubt they would waste such an interesting character (compared to most of Hikari's rivals).
 
Should she have been a recurring character? Yes, she's way more interesting than Zoey and Kenny.

Do I think she will be one? I'll say probably not. Zoey, Kenny and possibly Nando will all be at the Grand Festival, I don't see Dawn having 4 people to face there.

Apparently people have forgotten that there used to be many one-shot rivals in Contests. Its just that in DP there's only two of them, Yuri and Ursula.
 
It would be fun to see Ursula make a comeback. She’s far too good a rival to not have her come back. I would love to see her return for the Grand Festival and become Dawn’s main rival in the next saga (likely Johto Battle Frontier), but that’s just wishful fan thinking on my part.

While I'm aware that the "Harley rival" contest role is currently been filled by Jessilina, having 2 such rivals would be awesome.
 
Well, DP has surprised us by bringing up one-shot rivals out of nowhere (Like Conway and Angie). Then again, Nando seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth...hm...

I can't see why Ursula can't become a main rival. She has much more substance than Zoey and Kenny, so I really hope so ^^
 
Jesus christ, yes. Dawn needs a real antagonist rival the way Pikachu needs to use electric attacks. Harley actually did appear in May's contest arc around this time(he showed up after the TA/TM finale & the Mossdeep gym battle, but before the Sootopolis gym battle), so there's always hope...

Oh, who am I kidding. We're getting an assload of Kenny(you know, the character who literally has no personality and who has wasted potential with his connections to the other Twinleaf folks) and Zoey(who was only cool when we were learning her backstory in Snowpoint) and we're going to like tolerate hate it. May only had one rival in Drew when Harley came on the scene, but Dawn already has two(three if you count Jessie, even though she doesn't act like a rival as much as the other two). A pity, since the strength of the contest arc is seriously dependent on the tension between the main character and their rivals, and Dawn/two buddy-buddy rivals is completely uninteresting.

Yes,dawn needs a actual decent rival.Ursula is cocky/semi arrogent sorta like a female version of paul only better.
 
I wonder if Ursula having Gabite means anything...since Ash is getting Gible.
 
They really should have made her Dawn's rival like I did in my fanfic ^ ^
I would also like her to replace Kenny since he is getting nowhere in the series as he is getting very dull and boring.
 
A million times yes. Zoey's a little more fleshed out since she has backstory, but she still makes for an insanely dull rival. And Kenny's like the biggest pity case ever created for the Contest scene. And Nando practically doesn't exist. Dawn is really the kind of character who needed the fierce, competitive rivals that May had, because it honestly feels like she's had it too easy for her Contest quest.

Ursula at least made it interesting (Yuri wasn't bad either, but she's well-established as a one-shot rival); she definitely needs to reappear in the Grand Festival.

Honestly, the ideal scenario is if Dawn's long-term rivals were Ursula, Conway, and Jessie. And like, Jessie legitimately getting into the GF. Because she's about the only hope I have for the GF arc being interesting. An Ursula appearance would be nice, but since Kenny and Zoey are cemented as the long-term rivals, I have a feeling it would be some really cheap cameo if Ursula did appear. Even worse, that she ends up, like, losing to Kenny or something.

God, I really hope they shake things up for the next saga and make Zoey/Kenny go off to some other region that isn't one that Dawn's going to. Assuming they're still doing things that way after the Sinnoh League, anyway, but yeah. tl;dr: Ursula should have not only been recurring, but a main freaking rival. Geez.
 
Definitely yes. I can't stand Zoey and Kenny--I don't care what anyone says, they are boring as hell. Dawn needs a real rival, and that's what Ursula is. May had amazing rivals in Drew and Harley, and even though I don't like Dawn all that much, I think she deserves the same--she deserves way better than Zoey and Kenny. Ursula would be the perfect rival for her.
 
I've haven't seen much of the D/P series, but I've seen enough to figure that Ursula would probably make a better character and rival than the other two. The only reason Zoey should be liked is for her Misdreavus.
 
Holy crap, an Ursula thread?! YES!

Of course she was a better rival than others(except for Lila) and had a Gabite, but she WAS WEAK. Although I would like to see her with a Garchomp in Grand Festival competing against Dawn and cause some trouble, that's really it. If she were to appear more than one episode, it shouldn't be more one or two. She wasn't THAT good. But I would like to see Lila one or two more times.
 
There's still a chance Harley didn't make his second appearance until the Grand Festival.

Yeah, but May's only rival at the time was Drew.
Dawn already has Zoey and Kenny as established rivals in the openings and endings, and Nando will probably return as the winner of the Grand Festival. Then there's still Jessie, assuming she gets her 5 ribbons or not.

I think the writers established Dawn's rivals way too quickly, without seeing if they would be popular or not. Could that be why Kenny has a lack of appearances?
 
But Scott, think about it- Dawn is treated much better than May... don't you think there's at least a little possibility that Dawn's GF will be longer than May's? and a possible way to make it longer, is to give Dawn more important rivals to face (since they like to skip the random character battles)
You also have to remember DP is pretty good with continuity and they do plan things in advance...

Anyway, unlike others, I'm content with Dawn's rivals and I think it's something different to see some friendly rivals instead of what May/Ash got... I like Zoey, I don't care much for Kenny/Nando but they're ok

I really think Nando had the potential to be an interesting character, especially with the fact he's rival to both stars and that he's a rival who's actually older than the main characters... but it seems like for some strange reason they chose to keep him for the League/GF without letting the poor guy appear during the journey itself, too bad (I still hope he'll return in the upcoming double performance Contest - he was in the last one and won...)

Dawn's story is different than May's - May had to get rivals that are "mean" to her to push her to do her best, in contrast to that - Dawn need supportive rivals to help her overcome her confidence problems and realize her mistakes (I really liked that scene after the Solaceon Contest, Zoey was pretty cool coming all the way just to explain Dawn her mistake)

Now Dawn already matured a little and also got better as a Coordinator and can handle loses better
I guess it'll be nice to have Ursula in the GF to make it longer and more interesting... and then they can keep her for next saga too, whatever it is (similar to Harley: he was in one Contest, then returned for the GF and continued as a recurring rival for next saga)
And if Dawn stays for gen 5 (IF, let's not argue about it) then I'd like to see her get brand new rivals (maybe keep one of Zoey/Kenny as a rarely appearing rival) that are more similar to May/Ash's rivals, since by then I expect Dawn to be showcased as a mature experiecned Coordinator, similar to the change Ash went through when AG began
 
I actually hope Dawn's rivals change for the filler saga. Sinnoh will end around 200 eps, that's the same span AG went for.

Likewise Zoey has already been in more episodes than Drew has, almost definitely.

Considering people seem tired of Zoey/Kenny already, I can't imagine what the writers could do differently with them in the filler arc. Zoey seems like a permanent character for Dawn so she probably won't leave, but sometimes I think the writers are going to axe Kenny. They're not even having him appear much at all.
