Do you think Wake was the most shafted Gym leader in Sinnoh?

Did anyone else feel they didn't do Wake justice?

Roark, Gardenia and Maylene all got 4 episodes a-piece, most of them being important or good episodes. Likewise, Fantina is announced to be in an upcoming episode in Celestic, she might be in a Contest, and of course this is just a preview before she appears again at Hearthome for Ash to battle her.

Wake only got 2 episodes, the first of which was focused more on the Croagunk festival than him. And then in the second Ash beats him fairly easily without losing a single Pokemon.

Do you feel the writers screwed him over?

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised at this considering well... there isn't a whole lot they can do with the guy. Or...

He won't appear till much later (if you go by the games, he does make an appearence near Stark Mountain).

I certainly don't feel that way.

He entertained both my sister and me in both his episodes, but yes, perhaps they didn't think they could do as much with him?

But I suppose they couldn't think of anything else to do with him.

As a character, no. The first ep was great, and in the second he was shafted mainly because of the bad animator. Aaand.. he also got 2 eps left if we go by this "each gym leader = 4 eps" thingie.

In Sinnoh? Possibly. Then again, PDL's right. Wake does reappear at Stark Mountain, and that might be when he trips back into action again.

The Maylene-centric episodes were like a bone tossed her way, since she's the only leader that doesn't go out of their way to be outside her Gym for any reason plot-centric or just because. Everyone else all got their niche, even if Gardenia didn't quite do the whole Old Chateau thing (that would have been fuuun).

So far in terms of focus? Yeah, why not. Overall? We won't know yet 'til Volkner and possibly then some, if they drift off to the Battle/Survival/Resort Areas.

Uh....the animator is only drawing what the writer is telling them to draw. lol

Though he is bad.

I also think he'll probably appear near Stark Mountain for a tiny arc with Heatran and Buck and all. Besides, there isn't a whole lot going on in Pastoria anyways.

I don't really think this question can be truly answered until the Sinnoh saga ends.

I must say though, I realllllllly love the fact that the gym leaders are actually important now, like minor characters instead of characters of the day like they had always seemed (sans Senri, but his daughter and son were main characters. And of course Kasumi and Takeshi).

I mean, they actually DO stuff outside of their gyms! WOW!!!!

ALL of Indigo's Gym Leaders sans Brock and Misty were shafted...including Giovanni.

However - they did have better written episodes so that's what made them so memorable - the Johto leaders seemed like filler of the day characters.

... has anyone noticed that in Indigo EVERY Gym Leaderwas redesigned from the offical artwork?? However, starting with GS they were pretty faithful to the artwork??

I think it's awesome that the gym leaders get more focus this saga, but Wake is like my least favorite gym leader of them all, so I don't really care if he gets shafted or not.

But yikes, if they didn't know what to do with him, they could've at least given him a better animator for his gym battle episode. >_o

Though as others have said, he could just make a reappearance later on down the line, as did Gardenia.

I'm surprised you say that Scott. To me it seems alright. I don't know how faithful they'll go with the games.

I agree with the people who say that we can't really say, one way or another, until the saga ends.

I just wish the Gym Leaders in the other regions could have gotten four episodes apiece.

I think they realized that it'd be pretty ridiculous for Takeshi to be walking around without a shirt on throughout the series. Same with Kasumi and her skimpy two-piece.

After those two redesigns, I guess the animators figured they might as well just go ahead and redesign all the Gym Leaders.

Koga and Giovanni don't seem all that different really. Even Sabrina and Surge weren't totally different...

Erika and Blane I agree with.

I guess I can see Surge but Koga was redesigned too

No Surge was too...was their any reference to his army status in the anime?? He didn't even have his army attire in the show.

though... and this is just my personal opinion... that in itself gets into a whole other issue where the writers, too lazy to think of original characters to be Satoshi's groupies, figured they could just use two notable NPCs encountered early in the games, re-assign their personalities to an extent (almost as if they were original characters in the first place), and shaft everyone else. Yeah, for those who don't know me that well, I'm not really big on the whole Gym Leaders tagging along bit.
