Do you think we need more background on the characters?

Do you think they should have specials on the main characters and their origins. Like when the characters are born, what did they did while growing up, just to give us more info on the characters. What do you think, good idea or bad idea. As a side note, I would like for them to explain how do they buy Poké balls in the anime. Because don't they have to be programed or something so that the pokémon that is captured belongs to them.
 
We've already gotten flashbacks to all the main characters as kids. That already tells us what they've been doing.

Even Jessie/James got flashbacks to their childhood.

In fact, I'd say your question has already been answered.
 
Putting it simply: HELL YES.
Personally, I'd like to know a little more about the main characters, specifically the ones who don't get a lot of spotlight. :x
 
Capital YES.

Tracey for example was a main character for an entire season but we never got any backstory on him. Not at all, and it always bothered me.

I'd like to see a little more.
 
A little more would be nice, but like Scott said we already know a lot.
 
Not really. There aren't really any important events or other tidbits that are really worth noting about in their lives before they took up training Pokémon.

The good guys basically started off as regular kids with mundame lives. There's not a whole lot to go on that would help the current stories along.

The bad guys (Jessie, James and Meowth) on the other hand have far more of their backgrounds revealed to us because it gives at least some insight into their decisions and how and why they do bad things (They aren't really that evil).

yea, i would just like a little more, like ash's dad, misty's parents, that kind of stuff

Why would they give a backstory on Misty's parents when she's no longer part of the show?

That's something they would have done back in the original seasons when she was around.

Ash's father probably won't ever be shown.

I think it'd be a great idea to give a little more background on parts of the character's lives. It would make the characters deeper and change the pace up a little bit. It would also most likely function as filler, allowing the writers to pace the important events with the game releases without having to put out dull and uninspired episodes.

The only problem with this is that if they keep going for too long, you might end up with conflicting background information.

It's already been noted how many times TR's backstories on how they all met has been rewritten several times over the course of the series.

With the way the fandom keeps tabs on information on everything, the writers hit a continuity snarl then the fans will nag about it.
 
The DPt series has largely, with the exception of Nando, been better on this than other series, giving at least satisfactory backstories to every rival for a change, even if it's something minor like Kenny and Barry being childhood friends.

I guess you can say Paul hasn't much of a backstory beyond his motivation coming from seeing Reggie trashed by Brandon, but I think that's something we will get.
 
I think finding out more about Ash and Gary as kids would be nice. Like how thier rivalry actually started in the first place and all that.

Misty's parents would have been really cool too.
 
Yeah, I think it'd be nice. Like Sleet said, it would definitely go a long way to deepen the characters, which is a void that I think would be nice to have filled at some point in time.
 
What is there to say that hasn't been said? Team Rocket had extensive backstories in a good number of episodes.

How many times have they shown Dawn as a kid in DP? We saw flashbacks to Ash and May as kids too.

In AG, they even showed a flashback of how Flint got Onix for Brock for his 10th birthday!

It's really only Tracey who didn't get any backstory, but given he appears like once after every 200 episodes, they obviously don't really care to do so.
 
Their backgrounds have gotten some reveal....and they were cruddy.

I'd say no unless they reveal ash's dad........which will never....ever....happen.
 
I like backgrounds. They're my favorite. I'd kill for more Team Rocket background stuff.
 
I don't think a special should be devoted to them, but character development as the series progressed wouldn't have been a bad thing.
