Do you think Yamato and Kosaburou still have all the old pokemon they've used before?

Looking at the list of the pokemon we've seen them use over the years:

Kosaburou
Okorizaru
Kapoeira
Guraena
Parshen
Tsubotsubo

Yamato
Delvil
Yamirami
Dokukurage
Granbull

Both
Ratta

I got to thinking...do they still have these pokemon? Do they actually own them, or do you think they're just renting them from the Rocket-Dan (like what would have happened in that Battle Frontier episode where the gang went back to the Nibi Gym)? And if they do own them, do you think they still have all of them to call back at any time, or do you think they may have given some of them away?

I know there's no way to know for sure, but I think it'd be interesting to see what everyone thinks about it.

I think that Raticate was a plot hole. At first Raticate was shown as being the "Meowth" of Bluff and Cassidy, being with them alot, and inserting itself at the end of the motto. Oddly, Raticate stopped appearing after a while, and the only other time we get to see it is in "Traning Daze" And I belive that epi was released in other places long after it was released in Japan.

Slightly off topic: Has anyone else noticed that Bub and Cassidy act like they work for Prof.Mad banana and not for Gio anymore? It's like he ditched them and gave them a new boss in a small branch of Team Rocket after Ash kept owning them whenever they showed up.

In the newer episodes, they never seem to use any of the older Pokemon, even when their new Pokemon are defeated. I'd have to say that their Pokemon are probably just handed out and later returned for missions.

It actually makes sense when you think about it. Jessie and James are always in the field, so they always have their Pokemon on-hand. Since Johto, Cassidy and Butch spend a lot more time at headquarters or in Namba's lab than they did in the early days of Kanto and Orange, so they don't need to have Pokemon on-hand all the time. Giovanni/Namba probably just give them whatever is closest to hand on the odd occassions where they are sent into the field.

GSC junkie, they've probably just been transferred (or maybe it was a promotion?)

Well, she had Houndour for a long time now, since, like, her 2nd appearance?
And if I'm correct, she used it at The Ole' Berate And Switch!. But I'm not sure. I think they capture and keep their own Pokémon.

I think Dogasu doesn't know the english names - I suppose he lives in Japan -, it's not his fault. But many people here live outside of Japan and they still use the japanese names, maybe because they think the dub sucks and prefer to watch the japanese. Not sure, but that's probably it.

They probably still have their old Pokemon but don't need to use them since they're stored somewhere.

That's like asking why doesn't Brock use Geodude anymore.

I use both the dub and Japanese names. I use the Japanese names to refer to something that only happened in the raw. Jimmy's rival isn't Silver, Kenta's rival is Silver. Because I view them as different people. I first wached the dub, but now
I have a healthy list of raw names I know:

Ash/Satoshi
May/Haruka
Misty/Kasumi
Brock/Takeshi (Spelling?)
Dawn/Hikari
Pikachu/Pikachu
Jimmy/Kenta
Prof. Oak/ (I've both Orchird and Ookido, which one is right?)
Gary/Shigeru
Paul/Shinji
Zoey/Nozami
Kenny/Kengo
Nando/Naoshi?
Jessie/Musashi (can't quite remember this one)
James/Kojiro (Again, not certain)
Cyrus/Agaki
Cassidy/Yamato
Butch/Kasanji (Not certain)
Tracey/Kenji

They likely keep them somewhere at Namba's lab and take those they need on their field assignments.

Using the Japanese names is a point of preference. Fukamaru>Gible

But you have to understand that most³ of us aren't used to the japanese names.
It's the same thing if you go to a Japanese Forum and start writing the English names.

Ookido is simply pronounced the same as Orchid (in fact, I think Ookido is how Orchid would be written in Katakana...?)

Oh, thanks, I think Dogasu uses Orchid and 'Pedia uses Ookido, so I was confused.

Anyways, back on topic, I think that that it's plusable that they do keep there old pokemon stored away somewhere, but I still think that Raticate in particular was a plot hole, and one that shouldn't have been lost.

Whee, let's wank about which Pokemon names one should use on the board now!

:/

I'm very sure Dogasu is aware of all the English names - he does episode comparisons between Pocket Monsters and the English dub, after all. He chooses not to use the English names.

So this was nothing but a bragging post. Who cares that you know the Japanese names? Great.

Anyways, on topic. I think that they probably rented a lot from Rocket-dan. They seem to lazy to go out on "adventures" like Musashi and Kojiro, and I'm assuming they return to headquarters quite often. So . . . if that's the case, I'm assuming that they only have one or two pokemon, and that's the pokemon we saw in this episode: tsubotsubo and granbull.

Uh, really I was making I guide for people. We really need a thread like that.

Look folks, if you don't know which person/pokemon has which name, go look it up. Bulbapedia's a good place to start.

Some people like using the Japanese names :\. Deal with it.

As for Botch/Cassie's Pokémon... I assume that most were originally on loan from Team Rocket's reputed but never seen gigantic store of stolen Pokémon.

It's also pretty likely that Ekans/Koffing were originally from there as well. Given to Jessie and James while they were still considered "decent criminals" by Team Rocket, before they went totally downhill after meeting Ash and Pikachu.

Ekans and Koffing where Birthday and Xmas presents. I don't think that team rocket is into holidays.

Gio: Bah Krickitot!
