First scene of the upcoming Doctor Strange movie from Lionsgate:

It's looking good, really good.

I'm really loving these animated features that Marvel and Lionsgate are coming out with - though I've only managed to see UA2 so far, I'm desperate to pick up UA and Iron Man (and apparently there's a Fantastic 4 one too, that completely flew under my radar) and look forward greatly to future releases.

Seriously, I'm more psyched about the animated movies than I am about any of the upcoming live action films. Can't wait for more and I hope they're expanded as far as possible.

Spider-Man animated feature kthzplzbai.

I too enjoyed the month or so of these comic book movies coming on Cartoon Network, like Mosaic.

Call me old fashioned, but I think comic book heroes do better animated. If only they could bring back the Golden Era of 2D cartoon movies, instead of all these CG films. Really...the last 2-D movie was...Teacher's Pet?

WTF? That wasn't Doctor Strange. That was Battle of the Planets, only instead of sci-fi, it's mystical. They turned the Eye of Agamotto into a simple tool, made Mordo almost a "good" character, made Strange into more of a "destined" character, and who the HELL were those other guys? Just...no.

Sure you're not just thinking/hearing about the Fantastic Four series? New season supposed to be starting...sometime.

The Iron Man one was good, the Ultimates stuff ALMOST made me interested in reading the series. I just want something that's a little more mainstream-based (Nova or Captain Marvel). Or do an animated 1602 or Earth X. Maybe Spider-Girl or Killraven (I'd KILL for a live-action or animated Killraven).

Bleh. Spider-Man's been done to death. He's had 4 animated series, three movies, a live-action series, a Japanese series, and all kinds of other stuff. Even Wolverine hasn't gotten around that much.

Those weren't really comic book movies. They were just made by people in the business. It's like Buffy being called a comic book movie.

I'd like to see that as well. Just for something different. Or do a movie set in the past and present, with the past being done in an older animation style.

I dunno, I didn't like either Ultimate Avengers movie all that much. They're masterpieces when compared to the new Fantastic Four cartoon, though. I tried to like it... but it was just too bad.

Lookin' foward to the Spidey show, though!

As for 2d movie returning to theaters, yes please! But I think I would prefer the superhero flicks with live action (in theatres, in any case).

Mordo's the enemy of the movie, so I presume that he ends up turning against the others. Also, I prefer the idea of a slightly larger/rounded out cast as opposed to the prospect of it just being him, Wong and possibly The Ancient One popping up time to time.

It's clear these movies, like the live-action films and the Ultimate line before them are setting out their own canon, and I really don't see the problem in that if it's done well. (Although I'd have preferred it if Ultimate Avengers had either been closer to the actual Ultimates or Avengers or more different to the both, rather than the odd mixing and matching of the two.)

The problem is that it changes the dynamic. Mordo becomes a stereotypical "killed his friends" bad guy. Combined the probable betrayal with the sword fight that eventually happens...and isn't it just Highlander? I get that Strange has a boring origin, but that's why his origin is usually just handled as a brief flashback. Would have been so much better to have done that here. He's one of the few characters that you CAN do that with and NOT confuse people. Beyond that, he doesn't appear to the be selfish SOB he was before he damaged his hands. Now, it's hard to tell a lot from a 5 minute clip (and I'm sure I'll at least TRY to watch it when Cartoon Network eventually airs it), but...I just don't see this one being all that good (at least in MY eyes).

Exactly. And it's not like I'm picking at little details (i.e., the costumes or the little Thundercats reference with the Eye of Agamotto and Mordo's eye). My problem is ALWAYS when they VASTLY change the origin by introducing (apparently) COMPLETELY new characters and making the magical world seem more populated (what's the point of a Sorcerer Supreme if there are a million guys who can handle these threats?). Strange was always a bit of a loner, who felt he had to keep apart from everyone in order to properly protect the world. And Mordo was a bastard who felt betrayed by the Ancient One. No need to over-complicate things.
