In Pokemon FireRed (old game, I know), I'm sure you're familiar with the slots in Celadon city. I don't know why, but I'm actually quite good at those slots. I can line up three 7s in a row very often. Once I took my coin case from just 50-60 coins to maxing it out.
Here's what I do:
First, I just let the first two 7s line up on their own. I know it sounds odd, but it happens more often than you think. Maybe if I tried to do it on purpose I'd get an even higher success rate. Who knows.
Second, once two 7s are lined up, I focus on the last 7. I let it cycle several times so I can get a feel of how long it takes to get where I want it to be. Then, I count to 3, and hit the button. Usually I'm off by just one space. But I hit the jackpot often enough to get stupid amounts of coins.
