They re-did the character designs for them to be on par with the current designs. I can understand maybe re-drawing them, making Caterpie's snout green(it's sprites have always shown it with a green mouth), or making the flashbacks look like the new look but changing the designs?

It justifies the differences but still..

Something about the flash-backs seems odd.

Pikachu shows more expression than she does in the actual episodes.
..Brock looks awkward with his current design and his previous uniform.
Misty is out of the flashbacks.

The flashbacks are re-drawn because the pre-AG episodes were not done with digital animation. On top of that now that DP is in widescreen, the flashbacks have to be re-done.

So they just re-draw the old scenes in the flashbacks, rather than showing clips from old episodes like they used to.

It's not like they can use the old episodes as flashbacks now that the show's in HD.

Anyway, I kinda like how everyone looks in the new style, even in the flashbacks. It may seem awkward to you because you know how they looked like before, but I doubt the target audience minds. Hell, I know how they looked like before and I don't mind.

I'm fine with them, although flashbacks that originally had Misty in the episodes should have Misty in the flashbacks. I don't see why they couldn't briefly explain (or couldn't have briefly explained) who Misty was prior to the flashbacks. (And I mean very briefly.) Not sure exactly what flashbacks you're talking about though, Somari.

Pikachu is a boy. It's already been confirmed.

I still have my female theory.

Unless you're like 2 years old and have never heard of the games, anime or non-DPP season you should know who she is. She's appeared in Hoenn, and her fishing thing was shown in an early DP episode.

Where are people getting the idea that Misty is cut from flashbacks? In the Battle Pyramid episodes in Battle Frontier when Bulba/Squirtle/Charizard return, they show brief flashbacks as to how Ash captured them and Misty was in Charmander's flashback.

Which is wrong, since Pikachu was confirmed to be male.

Anyway, I don't remember when was the last time Misty appeared in a flashback, but I'm convinced they don't intentionally cut her out. Most of the time she's not even the focus of these flashbacks, anyway.

The so called "confirmation" scene is apart of my theory.

I think the last time Misty appeared in a flashback was sometime during the middle of Hoenn.

I'm pretty sure she was standing behind or next to Brock in one of the original scenes but in the flashback she didn't appear.

Attract only works with opposite genders not orientation if that's what your theory is about. Togepi was female, used attract on Pikachu and it worked. Thus Pikachu is undeniably male. Because like I said they already said attract works only with opposite genders.

Pikachu's gender is even more confirmed in the Pikachu and Piplup episode where they become stuck. Because the scientist said he used attract as a base and found a way to make it so it could work regardless of genders of the electric and water Pokemon.

I'd ask "what theory?", but that would be going off topic.

You gotta tell us which flashback you're talking about, I really don't remember a flashback where Brock appeared and she didn't.

In the Raichu vs Pikachu episode when Ash was holding the Thunderstone.

Yeah, I was about to say that too, Misty was in these flashbacks at the very end of BF they did mention Misty at least once during DP and shown her in some way or form (the lure, the scene in High Touch...) so they clearly don't try at all to pretend she didn't exist - I really don't know why people think so

But Scott just explained we saw her in the flashbacks of AG's last eps, just before DP began

In the Raichu vs Pikachu episode when Ash was holding the Thunderstone.

ONE episode out of a lot that had flashbacks... it's not like it was important to show Misty in that scene... and it's possible the same scene in the original ep had at least a second that we didn't see Misty in that specific shot... you're making a big deal out of nothing, seriously

Misty and Pika's gender... I see where this thread is going...

Agreed. You want a conspiracy theory? PUSA cut out Misty from both recent openings in the dub.

The scene with Delia/Misty on the playing card in Battle Frontier was cut for the dub, and Misty (and Gary) were cut from the High Touch opening in DP.

Not that I think that means anything, but PUSA purposely removed Misty from two openings in the dub.

Gotta agree with Pip here. Misty was completely irrelevant to the scene. When she'll be relevant to a flashback, she'll show up. Brock was physically closer to Ash in the original scene anyway, IIRC.

*facepalm*
You had to make it worse and give people ideas? -_-
Seriously Scott... as you said, it doesn't mean anything, it's nothing more than a coincidence

SB - check out your new PM

I also wonder why people act like flashbacks have to include characters.

In Ursula's episode they did a flashback to the Wallace Cup, but they didn't show May at all. And that's simply because she wasn't relevant to Ursula. Same deal here.

Exactly, if a character isn't relevant, then they really don't have to include it there even if it was in the original scene
Also, Ursula is a good example - we got a flashback to someone who was there in the Contest but we didn't actually see her back then, so a lot of things happen off screen and we can't see them... so who said Ash and Brock couldn't have a short talk about the stone alone when Misty went out for a second? it's really ridiculous to complain about this...
