I'm trying to get Chansey in Pokemon Fire Red and it's a pain but I'm wondering if anyone has a system that works.

There is no system, you just have to be really, really lucky. Hence the name...

The good news is that Chansey is available in the wild in D/P and is therefore much, much easier to catch.

That's good to know. Thanks Doctor Oak

...but it can't be sent back into FireRed.

Thanks to everyone. I guess I just gotta keep chucking Safari balls. Cheers!

I remember in Blue/Red, you could catch them on the bridge to Fuscia. Good times...

No you couldn't. You could catch them on Route 14 in G/S/C, but in R/B/Y they were only ever in the Safari Zone and Unknown Dungeon/Cerulean Cave.

Well if you have XD it's alot simpler just cause it's a snagable pokemon. If not you just gotta keep trying in the Safari Zone. The easiest thing to do is get on a patch of grass where Chansey can be and just kinda tap the dpad so you can go from facing up to down without it registering as a step.

Huh... That's weird. Maybe my game was glitchy, because I know I never caught one in Cerulean cave (ran into hundreds) or the Safari Zone. Seriously? You couldn't??? I'm so confused by this! :O

Thats a really great idea Greatliver, (no pun intended) and I also think these people should know, that if your goal is to get a Blissey out this deal, then you should capture the one in XD, it already has a high happieness index upon purification, and is therefore far easier to evolve, I know because I have XD, it evolved as soon as it grew another level(Soothe Bell is recomended), so instead of capturing a wild Chansey in the Safari Zone, find a friend who has XD and trade with them.

Finally I caught two Chansey... but they didn't even have a Lucky Egg?! Grrr

Stand in one place (ideally on foot since it's harder to do this on a bike) in the area of the SZ that Chansey is located and pivot around. By simply pivoting in on square and not moving from one square to another, you can get attacked but the steps won't be subtracted from the timer. Wait for a Chansey to appear and start by throwing a ball. If you catch it the first time, cool. If you don't and it doesn't run, try throwing food so it (hopefully) won't run away so fast. You can also throw a rock if you want...anyway just try throwing balls until you in catch it--or until it runs. If it runs...keep trying.
