May is my favorite character in the anime and I have always hoped she would return to the show again. I think it might make sense because she is still a playable character for ORAS, but last time the anime featured a remake they used beginner trainers. It would be really cool for May to be in the show for at least a couple more episodes, does anyone think this might happen?

They're already featuring ORAS as far as I know, and if Game Freak follows its new franchise rival (Yokai Watch) and launches a new game still this year then in some weeks ORAS'll be old.
So about the question, probably not. If she was supposed to appear she'd ve had appeared already, unfortunetaly...

I would really love it but highly doubt it. Instead I reckon Iris will come in due to being in the previous series and the Treecko kid will be the ORAS promotion.

I don't see her returning nor do I want her to honestly. She's my favorite female character, but she already had her time in AG and she already had a return in DP. I'd personally prefer her not to show up anymore. Besides, they have Shota and his Treecko who can promote ORAS.

I always found it a pity that May never got a side-series during DP that chronicled her Johto Contest journey. We could have seen her further character growth, interactions with rivals old and new, and the on-screen Bulbasaur/Squirtle/Drew's Roselia evolutions prior to her return in the Wallace Cup arc. So much happened with May prior to that arc, that it was a shame we never saw it unfold ourselves.

To answer the OP's question - I suspect we would have heard about May's return by now if it was on the cards. While ORAS are still relatively new and she could still yet return to promote them, I reckon that her arc should have occurred in the weeks surrounding the games' release. The XY saga seems to be focusing on Kalos more than AG and DP did with Hoenn and Sinnoh when FRLG and HGSS were brand new. On the other hand, this could perhaps signal that the writers are trying to settle a huge bulk of Ash's Gym quest before moving onto some nice AG exposition - maybe even a filler saga in which ORAS and the next main game(s) are promoted in tandem. The presence of the trainer with a Treecko could be a clue towards this, plus AG itself had the Battle Frontier arc that killed two birds with one stone by situating the Emerald Battle Frontier in Kanto.

If May does return, I hope that we find she has made more strides to becoming a top Co-ordinator. It would also be interesting to see whether any of her skills and confidence as a Co-ordinator manage to rub off on Serena and her new goal.

Sorry, sc190191, but it's too late. Gamefreak will be moving on from ORAS soon and there's no time to bring her in. If it was going to happen it would have by now, or at least would've learned of it.

I for one had hoped she would come back with a Mega-Evolution, but looks like it just wasn't meant to be :-(

Oh that's a shame :-( As someone completely uncomprehending of the game-anime interactions I was hoping there might still be time for this...

Do you guys think there's any chance they'll do a BF-style filler saga in Houen? As someone who was totally convinced that they'd end up in Jouto at the end of DP (only to be completely wrong) I'm loathe to allow my mind to wander down this path. If they did then I suppose there might be a chance for Haruka to show up then? Of all the main girls hers is the only one I found compelling enough to want to find out what happened after she separated from Satoshi, mainly thanks to her great rivals.

I remember discussing this before, and I myself would have liked to have seen her back, but it's likely too late now. We're much more likely to get Iris.

Personally, I would have wanted both. X3

Knowing pokemon series nature and staff formula May chances to comeback are very small.

If anything than because anime policy is to allow previous female protagonist to receive one follow up after being replaced from main cast either comprised of mini arc with multiple episodes or split it in 2 shorter cameos in form of two parter like they did with first female in Hoenn. Afterwards ending forgotten never to be heard from or seen in person again unfortunately.

Would i want to have May comeback, especially with third generation remakes where she could shine as real star due to her recognizability and relevance? Absolutely.

I wish May returns for at least 5 to 8 episodes. Show new pokemon, learn how to mega evolve maybe one of them(Venusaur, Blastoise in case of Wartortle evolving or Blaziken are all viable candidates), enjoy in her bubbly, sweet and slightly temperament side when food is in question or someone takes advantage of her.

Give us update on her journey in Johto and where has life path taken her afterward, witness how much things changed for her. What new interests, personality traits and skills she learned and develop during all thius time.

One good circumstance going for May is fact of not being replaced by new female in Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire remakes serving as very strong candidate to be used for promotion of third generation remakes and promote maybe idea of contests in Kalos region which is all about elegance and fashion. Potentially helping Serena about pokemon performer goal being reminded herself of how much insecure and inexperienced she was when just starting out. Maybe try them out herself to make appeals act more diverse for May future ventures as coordinator.

But problem is writers seem to waited for too long missing on this great opportunity. Because promotion of ORAS is entering its dusk stage.

After hearing some time ago how voice actor Kaori health somewhat improved being available to play temporary roles again. I saw no reason why May wouldn't return again giving us update, being logic choice to advertize new game release, bring more excitement to plot over some meaningless episode helping COTD we would get instead and make msany fans happy.

But judging by what happened in past.

Even older character appearing in new games, even enormous popularity and plausible excuses to bring him back from story standpoint arent sadly guarantee that that character will indeed return.

As evidenced with Misty for example who had various justified from story standpoint reasons to comeback in DP, during transition period in Pallet or in Unova(like World Cup where she could both promote games and advance her water master career), who was present in both DP and BVW2 games(even XY through mega Gyarados, Serena crush and E4 Siebold who is water master in games gives lot of reasons). Along with her VA Mayumi IIzuka openly announcing she is ready and would like to voice this character again followed with big demand for return.

But this meant nothing with writers missing on any opportunity to bring older traveling companion who is not from previous generation for main series in any shape or form.

So while dont get me wrong, as much as i would like to see May comeback in Kalos series being of belief how there exist unforced, good reasoning to bring her back.

At same time i decided to not get my hopes up just to end up disappointed maintaining realistic approach. Because given how little show producers care about continuity, past and unfinished stories of previous main characters and potential to be done more i think my skepticim and benefit of doubt over anyone else beside Iris coming back due to "tradition with replaced girls" is somewhat justified.

As much as i would like to be wrong because i miss May character being my second favorite female lead in entire series.

I would love to see the return of Brock and Dawn but May would still be nice.

No. May is no longer needed in the anime anymore. May's goal is to become a Top Coordinator, and this entails her winning five ribbons and a Grand Festival trophy. The games, and consequently, the anime have moved on from Pokemon Contests. There are no Contest Halls or Grand Festivals in Kalos (both anime and game). Ash and Jessie have both quit participating in Contests. Therefore, there is no reason why May should even come back.

There are plenty of other ways that the anime can promote ORAS without bringing back May (or even Max for that matter). The Mega Evolution Acts have, more or less, focused on the Primals and Mega Rayquaza legend from the ORAS games. In addition,
Shota, the green-haired boy featured in the latest Japanese opening and very briefly in XY064, will reappear in future episodes. He has a Treecko, and his design is oddly similar to that of Roxanne, who wears a Rustboro Trainer School uniform.

Probably not at this point, unfortunately.

Maybe if they do a 20th anniversary special she'll be in it with the rest of the main/supporting cast. Well at least I hope so.

Misty came back for FR/LG, and Lyra was introduced for HG/SS. So there's a strong possibility.

I think it's a little late for ORAS promotion.

Well depends on the creator. though i would love to see some old characters coem back rather than the old bring back an old character from the previous gen and then the next gen he/she doesnt appear in the series any more. But i doubt may will return. probably Iris will return since thats how it goes (Misty appeared in hoenn, May appeared in Sinnih, and Dawn appeared in Unova) So Iris will appear in Kalos as a supporting Character. I do hope there will be a season where they all can travel together (I doubt it will happen) LOL.
