Does Ash talk to his friends off-screen? Yes or no?

I say yes, because of some comments in various episodes/specials, but that's it.

Well of course he does. The "camera" isn't on him 24/7.

Who knows, there might be all kinds of things that get talked about, but we'll never know since they're not on camera, nor would it be important for the audience.

Perhaps Ash talks about his father alot to his friends, but for some reason, it's never on camera, so the audience never gets anything on it.

If he didn't, how would Misty know about May and Max when she first meets them (AG044)? Or how would Tracey know about Ash's disobedient Charizard (EP093)?

Oh yeah, of course. Ash keeps in touch with ALL the people he's met in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and even the Orange Islands. He has a secret Porygon(that we won't see for obvious reasons) nicknamed "AIM" which is short for "Ash's Instant Messenger." In the Japanese version it's nicknamed "SMS("Esuenesu") which is short for "Satoshi no Messeji Shishutemu."

Haha. XD AIM! Ash's Instant Messenger! I love that!! =D

I have to use that acronym, along with my MCA (Main Character Abuse) term that I use for when the writers make Ash get hurt/injured. XD

It's too bad Ash isn't good with using computers, though. We know that from "Beauty and the Breeder" and "The Ties That Bind". In fact, Brock was seen checking his email in "Beauty and the Breeder". But does Ash check his email too? Maybe he does, but we just don't see him do it, cause it's off-camera. o.o

Of course he does! How else would any of his friends stand to see him if he didn't call?

Yeah!!

He calls Professor Oak on the video phone, so I'm sure that he must call his friends occaisionally as well. ^^

It's also possible that he sends emails to his friends. But I doubt that, considering that he isn't very good with computers. XD

It's been stated several times that he does, and implied even more often. Come on.

Huh? Has it been stated in the dub, though?

I don't remember Ash talking about keeping in contact with his friends.

It was definitely stated he's had off-screen contact with Misty in the first Mirage Kingdom episode... if you count the "keepers" of the Pokemon neither on his hand nor at Oak's, he's contacted them off-screen several times, if you count Oak himself, he's had contact with him... I believe he had off-screen contact with Angie before the episode where they came to her house... there's tons of instances like these. All kept in the dub, since you couldn't really write around them if you wanted.

He's had off-screen communication with Haruka as well, if DP075 is any indication. Also Haruka says that she's "heard a lot about" Hikari, so there's always that, too.

And Satoshi talks about his prior friends, which is why Haruka knew of Hikari, and Haruka knew of Kasumi.
...

Reading it like that, it's almost as if Satoshi only tells Haruka about his other friends >.>
All Hikari knew about Haruka was "a coordinator that used to travel with Satoshi"

I think he would, which is why past characters like Misty and May heard about May and Dawn in their respective series'

I dunno, I don't really buy the explanation that they do talk to each once the 'To Be Continued' text has been and gone. I always figured they all just came to a halt wherever they were standing, and powered down for the week. Standing perfectly still, while their heads slumped down in lifeless fashion, their eyes still wide open and smiles still plastered on their faces.
There are no cobwebs on them the following Thursday, since spiders in pokemon land are half a meter in size.

LOL! No, its well known that Ash and Co. carry on their journey off-screen, and also that Ash's keeps contact with his other friends, so for all you shippers, Ash does talk to Misty, May etc quite frequently. I always thought it was an open secret that he did.

BBBBZZZZ! Wrong!

Satoshi has been shown using the computers at the Suzuran Conference (Sinnou League) to check his rivals. He knows how to use a computer and he obviously knows how to use those video phones, so I'm sure he keeps in contact with his past travel companions from time to time.

It's just not something that they bother showing on screen unless it's relevant to the "plot".

Gotta, say yes he does or how else would his friends know some of things he does. I think in the specials Oak said Ash tolled him Jessie/James/Meowth were still following him?

I don't see why he wouldn't. He's just like any other kid that keeps in touch with his other friends. Besides, it's been implied many times in the anime that he does.

Of course he does. But most of the time it isn't relevant for the plot, so they just don't show it. And he probably keeps in touch with the friends that aren't with him, too. I can't imagine him not calling them or sending an email every once in a while. Same probably goes for his mom and Oak.

So yes, he talks to his friends off-screen.
