I mean he has been defeated easily in every battle against a strong opponent(except Clays Excadrill). Is it a weak pokemon then or what?

Huh? Ash's first rock type pokemon doesn't suck. I think it's just an average pokemon in terms of strength. And I wouldn't bet on battling because most of BW battles all pretty much sucked.

Compared to how they did Palpitoad, I like Boldore better. And as far as losing goes, wasn't Oshawott in the same boat not too long ago?

It has excellent defence but then that just seems to be because the anime uses Sturdy wrong. Uses it over and over again despite it not working that way...

In Boldore's, as well as Ash's other Pokes this saga, defense: the writing in Best Wishes alone was horrendous.

The writers actually allowed for Ash to win his 8th badge in a 6 vs 3. The writers allowed for Ash to win 4 matches based on evolution. Just like the writers allowed for Axew to pull powerful moves out of its ass as a baby and do good against obviously stronger pokemon.

They are kind of like the Johto Pokes in a way: Johto was so strung out with fillers and Kanto glory, they really couldn't do much. Doesn't make them bad pokemon, just pokemon with bad/no storyline and because of such, they in turn will be viewed as bad.

All in all, Boldore does have a unique design as does most of Ash's reserves this saga but unfortunately thanks to the writers the proof couldn't be in the pudding. But because of this, it doesn't suck to me.

Given how Sturdy in Gen V makes sure the user won't be knocked out in one hit, I don't think its the worst thing in the world to show it reducing damage à la Solid Rock. (Granted, only 4 Pokémon have Solid Rock, 2 of which are related to each other, meanwhile we have 2 Pokémon with Sturdy on the main cast.) Plus artistic license.

Remember how Boldore appeared in the opening to Episode N, looking awesome, and then it never appeared during the arc at all?

It was sort of cute as a Roggenrola, but as Boldore...it doesn't suck so much as it is rather underused and so didn't get much of a chance to demonstrate its strength.

Boldore is neither the strongest or weakest of Ash's Unova Team, IMO.

It's pretty unfortunate because Boldore has such a neat and "alien" design compared to Ash's usual Pokemon, but I guess that's part of why it doesn't pop up much...

I liked the scene in the Keldeo Movie where Ash used it as a sled, that was pretty cool.

Agreed. It was fairly interesting to look at.

Oshawott did get more than one impressive win. Boldore did not.

And? That doesn't mean it sucks. At least it's not an annoying running rag all the time. I rather a real pokemon than a comedy pun all the time.

I don't usually semi bash Oshawott but with Boldore I do enjoy it's battles much more despite it's loses.

It sucks as much as the other reserves who lost their personalities and were only used in fights where they never really won anything outside of one fight.

No, I do not think he Sucks He just Got Battered Badly by Bad Writing I Think.

Boldore hasn't really done much to show that it's a strong Pokemon, but it hasn't really been shown to be weak either. Based on what we have seen, I think it's just a really "meh" Pokemon more than anything else.

>>> gets beaten by bug types easily.
>>> gets creamed by hydreigon and puts up a worse fight than mijumaru.

It has a phenomenal defense however then that only appears to be since the anime utilizes Sturdy off. Utilizes it again and again notwithstanding it's not working that way....

I wouldn't say that it sucks, but it hasn't really done anything phenomenal either. I'd say it's pretty average and I do wish that it had gotten more major battles.

Does Boldore suck, No. Does the writing for it and it's trainer suck, Yes.

Does kinda suck a bit. Ash's BW team had so much promise as he got things like Sewaddle, Palpitoad and Roggenrola, but they've all been used terribly and are pretty crap. I was sure there would be a mint trade story for Ash to get Gigalith and Trip to get Conkeldurr, but it never happened and Trip's Gurdurr evolved mysteriously. In terms of battles and its general being, I think Boldore has been a major disappointment.
