Just something I have been curious about. Does anyone really care about the gender of their pokemon? Personally I carry an all male team with me but I just wondered about the rest of you.

So...

I chose Female because I feel like it makes breeding easier. I know you need one of each gender to breed, but once I have the female, it makes it much simpler to find a compatible male to pass on the egg moves.

As for my team, doesn't matter to me. :)

To me, it really doesn't matter at all. During the story, if I have a choice I'll go with female so there's no chance of being infatuated by cute charm. Also, I like to have a female Gardevoir or a male Hariyama, etc...

It depends on the species in question. Some of them will be female, like Gardevoir or Ampharos, others male, such as Heracross.

I'm pretty OCD when it comes to genders of teams I make up. They either have to be 2/4, 3/3 or 4/2. There's also a team made entirely of Genderless Pokémon.

Then I suddenly try to find equalibrium between Genders, type combos, natures and even breeding groups. Have too many female dragons? Train one or two male ones next. I can't have Pokémon that have the same nature on the same team either. It's nuts actually. I try very hard not to have conflicting attributes.

I switch occasionally. I was May in Sapphire, Brendan in Emerald, Dawn in Diamond and I will be Lucas in Platinum when I get it.

I don't think that's quite what he meant. :p

In any case, for rare Pokemon I prefer to have females if I don't get too frustrated trying to find one. They make excellent fodder for when I'm trading. Otherwise, I don't care too much.

I match the gender from my Pokémon's face. :D Also, when I'm Dawn, I use girl Pokémon more often. Same with Lucas. :p

Yes, it matters because I usually role-play as myself, but I know some other members who don't and pick other genders based on what character design they like the most or etc. So to each their own.

Genders don't matter much to me... It only really matters when a friend or some one I'm gonna trade is asking for a specific gender...

As for genders regarding breeding, it also doesn't matter... You could use Ditto until you get the one you want and it won't complain...

Yes, if we're talking about BREEDING. Breeding's all about gender, imo. If you don't have the right father and mother pokemon, the baby's all ruined.

No, if we're talking about teams. I used to HATE female Pokemon though, and it's all because of my cousin. He told me that males are stronger—and I believed him. :p

I usually don't care; Attract is pretty rare, and next to unheard of in battles against real players. Though I do prefer my more attractive Pokémon to be females for (psychological) eye candy purposes. However, in Platinum I made sure to breed males for everything but my Blissey because I named them all after classical composers and there are not a lot of famous females in that field.

I'm pretty anal about catching female-only Pokemon since owning Gold.
Still really don't know why, but if I want a Gallade for example, I'll get a male Ralts.

Depends on the Pokèmon. Most will be male but for some such as Vulpix and Lopunny, it kinda has to be female just based on how the Pokèmon looks.

^ Ironically, you actually need a male Ralts to GET Gallade.

So yeah, anyway, my teams tend to be a bit mixed up. My Scizor's female, most of the rest are male.

Unless I'm going for an evolution. Not completely. Though I do like to get my Pikachu's female. Just a thing I guess.

Though, I did giggle when I got a male Milotic and called him Bishi.

Not really, only if I notice that say 80%+ are of one gender, I make an effort to balance it out a bit more >.<

Does not matter to me, but I somehow end up having all males on my team when I would want some to be female. If the pokemon has the right stats for competitive battling, it does not matter what gender it is. I now have both a male and female heatran, no good though as they can't breed, oh well why have them be a gender then?

I actually heard the same thing: for years I had believed that male Pokemon had a higher attack stat then female Pokemon. I don't remember where I heard that from, but I always had all male Pokemon for that reason, especially for ones that relied on their physical attacks.

Now, I mostly go on appearance. For example, for the "beauty" Pokemon (Gardevoir, Milotic, Lopunny etc.) I get those female, but for the fighting types and such (Gallade, Scizor, Machamp, Infernape etc.) I get those male.

Usually, genders only matter to me when I need egg moves. Besides that, I only prefer a certain gender on rare occasions, usually just for aesthetics... like with my female Wobbuffet for its goofy lipstick-wearing face, female Heracross for its heart-shaped horn prong, and my female Hippopotas, which would look cool as a black Hippowdon, once I decide to train it.

I also go for females of Pokemon who have a high male ratio, like the starters, or rare ones like Munchlax and the like.

I really don't pay too much attention to the genders of my Pokémon team. I just stick with what I catch. I sometimes use their gender to come up with nicknames.

When it comes to collecting, I like to have one of each if there is any differences. Sometimes I collect one of each if there are no differences, like Skitty or Meowth.
