Does it surprise you how long its been now since the "original series" ended?

Does it surprise you that the end of the original series happened 10 years ago?

When you stop to think about it, the "original series" ended way back in 2002. Its now 2011, which means its almost been 10 full years since the end of the first series of Pokemon.

I personally don't include Johto as part of the original series, since it was treated as a second arc/generation and Bulbasaur/Squirtle/Charizard didn't stay throughout all of it, but officially its considered as part of the same episode count.

Now that the show has gone on for so long after the original era, it feels like you can't count it as the mid-point of the series anymore. Nowadays the mid-point is somewhere in mid-AG since the show now has 700 total episodes. You can't divide the show up between the original series and what comes after, since literally the "entire show" takes place after the end of Johto, literally 9 years and about 500 something episodes worth.

When you stop to think about it, the "original trio" was only ever used for a small segment of the anime, Bulbasaur/Squirtle/Charizard didn't last longer than any of Ash's other teams, and Misty is in less than half the shows total episodes now, being in only around 40% or so of the shows total eps.

As one of those original fans who started watching with Kanto but followed the show the whole way through, it surprises me how long its been since the show started and the first "series" ended. Sometimes it feels like the end of Johto and the beginning of AG was only yesterday.

Does this surprise anyone else that the beginning of Pokemon through Johto was literally a decade ago now?

This is kind of hard for me to make a decision. I saw perhaps about 30 episodes of the original series back when I was really young before my house was hit with the Pokémon ban. For many years, Pokémon just faded into the background and I sort of forgot about it. It wasn't until later when I bought one of the games (I estimate about four or so years after the ban started; my parents didn't seem to care anymore that I was now playing Pokémon - and yes, they did know about it), but I didn't get into the anime until about a little more than a year ago. That was when I decided to watch every single episode, which of course, I can only do online because I don't have cable or satellite TV at my house, and CN only airs the most recent episodes.

Though I do remember that "Master Marathon" they had on Cartoon Network a few years ago; our family went to go live in Hawaii for the time I was in 9th grade due to military reasons so we rented a really nice house that had cable so I was essentially spoiled that year, but at least I was able to watch the Master Marathon.

I can't really say yes or no because I never payed much attention to the anime until recently. Of course I knew it existed, it's just that I never bothered to watch it until now. If I really had to make a choice, I'd have to say "no" because time did not seem to fly by for me Pokémon-wise due to me not getting involved in anything Pokémon-related until these recent years.

Now if I never was under the Pokémon ban, I would have been involved more and there would not have been that gap in my life. I believe then that I would have said "yes" to this poll.

I don't get what's the purpose of this... to remind us for the 32523523 time that Misty isn't in most of the show's eps by now? we got that in all previous times you said it...
Yeah, times goes by quickly without you noticing it, that goes for everything in life, not just Pokémon...

I have to agree with Piplup. Pokemon is still Pokemon, but the series could not go on at this rate with the beginning trio. Sorry, but making threads to make a big deal out of this will not bring Misty back. I will not repeat what Piplup had said, but Piplup is very right. Everyone gets it and as it is, Misty has had more airing than any other female role. It's nice to see that there are people in this world who can't move on in life without getting all depressed because of - oh man...700 episodes...this can't be happening! Or the ever so repetitive, "Bring Misty baaaack D8," and as well the possibility of bashing all the other characters because of your own personal references.

There is however the theory that Misty may make a possible appearance or have an episode dedicated to her. The writers in my opinion care enough fortunately for people such as yourself to help compensate for you days mentally lost at sea with 20 minutes full of Misty. Oh, you can also go back and watch Kanto through Johto by the way.

I don't think we need this topic, as it has been brought up a lot in the past, and there really isn't much to discuss.

I will say however, that if any user feels that a topic is pointless, report it. You have all been here long enough to know that by now.
