As I was watching "The Flame Pokemon-athon", during the Pokemon race, Ash was riding Lara's Ponyta, Misty was riding her Starmie, Brock was riding his Onix, and Pikachu was riding Squirtle. Pikachu's riding Squirtle was probably done for comic relief, but it also made me realize something: Pikachu feels like he's more human than most other Pokemon (besides the Team Rocket Meowth).

I take it the reason is because Ash treats his Pokemon as if they were on the same level as humans, and Pikachu being his first and top Pokemon, is pretty much treated as if he were more than just a Pokemon.

That's my take on it. What do you think?

I think not, actually. Almost every Pokémon feels pretty human to me, the big exceptions being the wild ones who live in groups, among others. Pikachu doesn't feel more human than others, it's just that we see him more often thus we can notice that more than with other Pokémon. In fact, I could say some Pokémon could feel even more human than Pikachu. Korrina's Lucario even slept in his own bed as seen on this week's episode.

If everyone treats you like a human, you are gonna feel like a human. With Pikachu being out of his Pokeball all the time, he's inevitably gonna interact more with the humans that with the Pokemon. There is also Togepi, Axew and Dedenne, but Togepi is a baby, and Axew and Dedenne have pokeball in the form of hair and a purse.

I think that trait was more prominent in Kanto, and nowadays it isn't seen much.

I agree with the above two posts. And, in truthfulness, Pikachu, while having a more defined character over time, I think Meowth tends to act the most human of all the Pokemon in the series. Pikachu still eats regular Pokemon Food (that kibble stuff), while Meowth is known to eat the same food as Jessie and James... HUMAN food. While Pokemon are able to eat pretty much whatever they want, human or Poke Food, the fact that Pikachu's and Meowth's general diet varies immensely shows that Pikachu is still treated as Pokemon while Meowth acts more human-like. After all, he did make it is goal to become human-like to impress a female Meowth, right? So, in reality, while Pikachu's personality has been more clearly defined over time due to his consistency and interactions, I think that Meowth is the most human-like of all the Pokemon in the series.

Well, from what I can see there are a lot of Pokémon who are just as intelligent as Pikachu, while there are some that aren't as intelligent. I do think Pikachu is smart in HUMAN terms though.

I don't think Pikachu feels more human. I don't think any pokemon can feel that way in my opinion.
