Dog stands before Supreme Court (seriously; and I don't mean the bounty hunter)

The Yukon Supreme Court is to hear its first capital case in living memory when a judge decides the fate of a dog.

The two-year old German-shepherd-Rottweiler cross named Trevor was rescued from a home last January where he had been neglected to the point where his collar had grown into his body.

The Whitehorse Humane Society adopted him out, but Trevor was accused of biting people and turned into the pound this month.

The humane society says that, legally, Trevor should have been returned to them and that he remains their property.

They want to use provisions that allow people to keep dangerous dogs under secure conditions, but city bylaws call for Trevor's destruction.

If every dog has his day, Trevor's will be Aug. 6, when his case is expected to be heard.

I'll never understand how a dog that takes a few nips could be put down for that. It's not like it understands, and the article would say if it had done any lasting damage, so seriously, wtf.

A dog. In front of the supreme court. Oh no, now I'm tempted to say it.

*restrains urge*

*fails*

This country is going to the dogs

I remember reading a book about Pepper the black lab who got put in prison for killing California's govrner's cat. He kept the inmates company until he died.

I feel bad for poor Trevor. I have a gs/rott mix at home. Trevor's owner should be the one tried for animal cruelty. The poor canine had it's collar ingrown into it's neck? Who would let that happen?

Why don't they just rehabilitate it?

*sigh* Humans are really weird sometimes.

You can sometimes, but sometimes you can't. Just like with people. If a dog seriously has snapped though, or has a tendency to snap out of nowhere, rehabilitation generally won't have any effect.

According to Cesar Milan of "The Dog Whisperer", a dog can always be rehabilitated. It's the owner who needs to be trained.
