Doubt "Fast Friend" skill

Well, my chikorita lvl 44, just got the fast friend IQ skill (pokemon mistery dungeon 2), but, i dont like him as a leader, i prefer using my chimchar, my doubt is: for the skill to work, does mi chikorita need to be as leader, or is enought with just being in the team? i need fast answer if possible, thanx :)

Ooh, that's bad, i tought maybe it gave 1% more recluit rate to the leader, but thx anyway, i'll start using chikorita more i think... anyway this post doesn't need to be here anymore, some mod could close it
