The DVD for the second Diamond & Pearl movie (Movie 11 overall) is being released in Japan today, giving fans without access to a Japanese movie theater their first chance to watch it.

The movie is available for purchase at Amazon.co.jp, Play-Asia, and CD Japan.

Please remember that the "no links to downloadable/streaming content" rules are still very much in effect.

So what do you guys think of the movie?

Just from looking at the pictures online:

-The art in this is gorgeous. I wonder if they hired new people...at some points it looked very much like Rozen Maiden, particularly in facial expressions.

-Zero is definitely going to go down as one of the greatest villains in this series. I could pick up on his insanity.

-Mugen looked like a funny guy.

-They made Giratina act at times in a manner unbecoming of a 'devil' parallel, IE: letting Pikachu sit on its head.

the movie is fantastic and is one of the most beautiful movies yet. It was well worth the wait to watch it all day now I can't wait for movie 12

So I saw the movie tonight.

Overall...I liked it a lot better than the previous two movies. I really liked the new characters; Shami was an amusing little prick, Zero was like an uber Jirarudan, and Mugen was hilariously full of himself. I also really liked the setting, especially the Reverse World.

A few random thoughts:

- We get to see the guy trainer from the Diamond & Pearl games during the opening montage. It looks like he's fighting the male trainer from Emerald.

- That's quite an intricate opening CGI logo.

- There are quite a few pieces of music used in this movie that are not included on the soundtrack (though it mostly seems to be TV stuff).

- Why does Joi seem to know so much about Shami? Also, lol at both Takeshi and Joi wearing glasses.

- Satoshi gets abused a LOT in this movie. I lost count of the number of times he gets hit, falls over, gets kicked, attacked, etc. He's also Shami's punching bag for a good portion of the movie.

- Potchama is in this movie quite a bit. It's even listed in the credits BEFORE the Rocket-Dan.

- Mugen's Tatetops makes up for the absolutely pitiful appearance it had in that Hunter J episode.

- The mother and child duo from the Lucario and Darkrai movies show up in this movie as well.

- So I guess you don't need tickets to ride that train? Either that, or the guys in charge there are really lax about letting people just walking around with tickets.

- Why doesn't Takeshi break out his Usokki when Zero's pokemon are attacking them inside the train?

- The only characters who do less than Takeshi (who doesn't do a damn thing in this movie) are the Rocket-Dan.

- I really, really like that Zero is given an in-depth backstory. But his motivations are kind of lame...he wants to be the "king of the Reverse World," but...what would he do once he achieved that goal? Lord over an uninhabited wasteland?

- I also really like how Mugen gets to be a hero and shut down Zero's flying ship.

- Regigigas is kind of deux ex machina-y, but I guess it makes some amount of sense.

- So I guess Infi "dies" in this movie. That's a bummer.

- I really liked seeing everyone's parents during the ending theme. That was a really nice touch.

After seeing the pictures... was there really a Cresselia in the intro like Pokéani said? I didn't see it in the pictures I saw...
And Pokéani was totally right when they marked Pachi as "minor appearance" while the rest of the group's Poké had the "appeared and did something" mark
Too bad, I like Pachi but it's the only Pokémon that was only seen for a few seconds at the beginning when all the Poké eat... all the others appeared later in the movie too and actually did things to help (especially Buneary and Swinub since ice was needed, Bunny even had time to show its love to Pika)
It's really irritating after getting a nice role in movie 10, Pachi is totally neglected this time
I also didn't see Gliscor in the pictures other than that eating scene in the beginning but since Pokéani didn't say anything like that about it, I guess it did do something and the pictures I saw simply didn't include this scene

Ash and Dawn once again are showcased as equals while Brock is totally ignored
I so like it ^_^
Around the end it seemed like Ash is going to steal the spotlight but not, Dawn didn't stop to help and she was important and while Ash did his thing, Dawn helped in the scene where they had Poké use ice attacks (what's up with not only Bunny but also Sentret and Furret doing Ice Beam? normal types have turned into ice types? I know they're able to learn this attack but I'd expect more ice Pokémon in such scene)
And I think she also caught Shaymin when it fell close to the end

It looks like he's fighting the male trainer from Emerald.

At least according to that "Pokémon Sunday" episode that showed scenes from this intro they said it's the RS hero and showed a picture of Brendan in his RS outfit
Hopefully next movie we'll finally get to see him in Emerald clothes... but not this time

- Potchama is in this movie quite a bit. It's even listed in the credits BEFORE the Rocket-Dan.

This isn't really new
Since DP 60 Piplup appeared in every episode for -at least- a few seconds and usually more than that and lately it's constantly out of ball just like Pikachu
Around that Psyduck episode TV Tokyo's site began list Pip with the main characters
And then since DP 92 Piplup appear in the ED credits together with the main characters
In both the "Kaze no Message" ED and "High Touch" OP, Pip is seen with the group just like Pikachu
So it's not new that Pip is officially main in the VA credits and being out of ball

- Why does Joi seem to know so much about Shami? Also, lol at both Takeshi and Joi wearing glasses.
Somebody has got to be a random expert on a rare mon

- The mother and child duo from the Lucario and Darkrai movies show up in this movie as well.
I think they have been in 3 so far.

- Why doesn't Takeshi break out his Usokki when Zero's pokemon are attacking them inside the train?
What you expect it to do something! :p

- The only characters who do less than Takeshi (who doesn't do a damn thing in this movie) are the Rocket-Dan.
I don't see why they have to appear in the films, its not like they have done much in any of them.

- Regigigas is kind of deux ex machina-y, but I guess it makes some amount of sense.
It was a good way of showing one that probably wont be in a episode. (hight problems)

- So I guess Infi "dies" in this movie. That's a bummer.
Who or what is Infi? ( a noob question?)

Infi is Zero's computerized maid that operates the Megaliba.

This movie actually had the "DP Platinum" logo (while on the DVD itself it's the regular DP logo) so I guess this logo change is ONLY for the movies and not for the show

So Brock doesn't do anything in this movie like all the previous ones?

Why am I not surprised.

After seeing the pictures... was there really a Cresselia in the intro like Pokéani said?

Yes, there was.

I've only skimmed through the movie so far, but it looks just as good as the summery made it sound. I have a feeling I'll enjoy it more than 10. But I'll save my thoughts for when I've seen the whole thing.

Yeah eventually I found a picture of the Cresselia
I really find it interesting they had Cresselia in the intro now and the Lunar Wing (and Darkrai) in the previous movie
Maybe they're really hinting at a Cresselia appearance in one of the movies and will continue to throw such "hints" in each movie until Cresselia's movie?

And the Lunar Wing reminds me... did any of the characters get anything in this movie that might show up later in the show like Dawn and the Lunar Wing?

I really wish the fan sites wouldn't use those programs that take screenshots every x number of seconds. You miss out on some really good shots that way:

Here's Cresslia

There's a six image per post limit here, so I'll put some more up later.

(if anybody is SURPRISED that I would muse on this point, then you haven't been here for very long)

Zero was like an uber Jirarudan,

- I really, really like that Zero is given an in-depth backstory. But his motivations are kind of lame...he wants to be the "king of the Reverse World," but...what would he do once he achieved that goal? Lord over an uninhabited wasteland?

Hmm. Ruler of an empty world is Jirarudan-esque (if you leave out the aesthetic function), but also Molly-esque (if you leave out the family angle) and Platinum-verse Cyrus-esque.

...Hmm. That's four characters with their own personal worlds. Only one is allowed to stay in theirs, and it's percieved as punishment to do so. A rather interesting comparasion.

But overall I got the impression from the summaries that Zero is meant to be more of a parallel to Cyrus than anyone from other movies. Except without the god complex. The overall theme of destruction in the name of salvation is something neither Jirarudan nor Molly have.

Although before 2 came out, the rumors were that the villian was to be a "mad researcher". Perhaps Zero is what Jirarudan was at one point going to be (or perhaps the rumors weren't true at all).

- Satoshi gets abused a LOT in this movie. I lost count of the number of times he gets hit, falls over, gets kicked, attacked, etc. He's also Shami's punching bag for a good portion of the movie.

I like this movie already.

Fareless Square? (sorry, Portland thing)

- The only characters who do less than Takeshi (who doesn't do a damn thing in this movie) are the Rocket-Dan.

Isn't that always the way? When was the last time ANY of them got to do anything? Wasn't it both in 4, when Brock's Onix fought Vicious's Tyranitar and Jesse was the one Vicious blabbed his entire evil plot to?

Brock needs to have a movie where he gets to be the hero. Max got one, May *almost* got one if Ash hadn't grabbed the title at the last minute, and Tracey had that brief moment in 2, but Brock doesn't get to do crap.

Six more:

Recycled mother character.

mother.jpg

The people on the train who tell our heroes more about Shami. All of these characters have names; the blue haired adult is called Moose, and the pink haired woman is called Leila. The overweight woman in the yellow shirt is named Ogin. The kids include Shun (green shirt, buzz cut), Taka (glasses, crazy brown hair), and Kako (the little girl with the yellow dress).

Zero starts to lose it.

During the end credits, Hanako gets some flowers.

So does Takeshi's family.

And Ayako...

Well...he *does* have a king complex. So it's kinda-sorta similar.

One thing I also notice is that Shami has a unique speech pattern; a lot of the time, it adds a -shu to the end of its sentences, as if it's sneezing.

Wow! Who delivered the flowers? Was it Shaymin? So a legendary Pokémon has the ability to spy on people's families?

Where're Brock and Ash?

The flowers are being delivered by the man you see in each shot. They were, presumably, sent by our heroes (after we see the parents receive the bouquet, we see a shot of their kid kind of waving to them, as if the flowers are just a way for them to say hello).

As for that train picture...Satoshi and Takeshi are further back in the train. They catch up to Hikari a few shots after that one.

Countdown to people noticing that all the train people in that shot have Johto pokemon in 3, 2--

Man, the whole family races to the door!

Well...he *does* have a king complex. So it's kinda-sorta similar.

Hahahaha.
Someone needs to get the four of them together. The aristocrat who claims to be nobody's king (the first line in Jirarudan's image song) but sure as hell is the lord of his domain, the princess both in control and in the chains of the Unown's game, the prospective god who deigns to save the world by first destroying it, and the extremist researcher who would rule an empty world rather than face the human world.

And why do I get the feeling that, if Molly had access to the mind control ability that she (through Entei) put over Delia, the other three would be putty in her hands and she'd be centering a game around the Unown tiles and her new shiny card with a kitty on it?

One thing I also notice is that Shami has a unique speech pattern; a lot of the time, it adds a -shu to the end of its sentences, as if it's sneezing.

That's been talked about for a while.

I watched the movie
Gliscor didn't do anything just like Pachi so I don't get why Pokéani marked its appearance as more important... whatever
So at least Pachi wasn't the only neglected one... I hope next movie they'll both get to do something very important to make up for this
I really like Shaymin! It was very nice to see its interactions with Ash and Dawn and also how it's suddenly brave after it change form
The connection with movie 10 was very little... just a very quick mention of DP's battle in movie 10 and that's it (I guess movie 12 will do a similar thing and quickly mention 10-11's battles)
This movie was the first and only time we saw a Poffin that is NOT pink... I wonder why we never see any other colors in the episodes

Dammit, Shaymin is a cuddly little thing. I want it.

The scene where Shaymin is hanging on to Dialga should REALLY give you an idea of scale.

I liked the open, with the video game trainers. The scene with Brendan and the DP protagonist, and also the Lady and her Eons. Almost makes me wish for an anime spinoff of the show. It's also by far the most beautiful intro sequence to any Pokemon movie I've ever seen.

Six minutes of nothing but Pokemon dialogue (aside from Zero and Mugen's brief appearances) is very very cool in my opinion. Kudos to the director for taking risks like this. It's stuff like this that's the reason the movies keep getting better.

So far I'm blown away by the animation quality. I thought Movie 10 was eyepopping, but 11 is blowing even 10 out of the water. At this rate 12 will be a masterpiece.

More observations as I watch more of it. So far it's turning out to be an awesome flick.
