Ash doesn't need to steal Hikari's spotlight away from her. If Ash entered Contests, there'd be no reason for Hikari to do them. Doing one Contest is fine, but he shouldn't be in the majority of them. Do you guys really want to see Ash outstaging Hikari in her own arc?

That's why I was happy the writers kept Ash/Brock out of May's Contests until the very end of BF.
