Japanese: ポケモンコンテスト!ソノオ大会!!
[bp=DP026]Bulbapedia article[/bp]

This episode will air on TV Tokyo April 5, 2007, along with DP027 and a 10th anniversary special.

Dawn has a new hair style in this Contest.

She's still wearing the same damn dress, (where is the red dress from her ending?), but at least her hair is different.

Well... at least the flowers are different. And I love her hair! I would've preferred to see her in something completely new though. But if she does continue to wear the same dress in all her contests, I hope she'll at least wear something special for the Grand Festival.

Did you guys see the preview?

Piplup Vs. Prinplup looks great. There's also a Magmar...possibly Kengo's appeal Pokemon.

Dawn's appeal with Pachirisu looks amazing. And this is supposed to be a beginning coordinator? Her appeals are better than anything we've seen in the anime before! She makes a whole outline of a ribbon with Pachirisu's electric attacks.

Looks like a really great episode. But of course most Contest episodes are winners, so this is no exception.

I'm so excited about this episode, contests are always my favourites.

What do you think Kengo's dub name will be? Ken?

The explanation within the anime would probably be that since she's seen lots of contests, and has a co-ordinator mother, she was more prepared and able to come up with impressive appeals. But I'd say the real reason is just that the animators want to keep showing off all their CGI and animation tricks ^^. The appeals in AG (not just for May, but for everyone) went up in animation quality and style over the course of the series, and though it's not realistic, the writers probably don't want to drop the appeals back down to their early AG level.

Did anyone else besides me notice the preview for this episode had the theme of Lost in Space as the background music? I found it incredibly odd. ^^;;

As for the episode itself, I'll be looking forward to seeing Pikachu and Buneary cheerleading. Buneary is even wearing a mini version of Hikari's cheerleader outfit. :D

What was with Hikari's messed up hair in one scene that had the boys ROFL?

I'm SO looking forward to that.

I think they are laughing about a possible Kengo-crush...

That pic is funny. One thing I like about Dawn is how Ash/Brock can basically make fun of her and they don't really care since its all in good fun.

With Misty, she was always keeping the boys in line and making sure things went well.

With May, Ash helped mentor her a bit and both she and Max were looked after by the two boys.

Dawn is seemingly in a different dynamic altogether. She doesn't get angry/lead the group like Misty did, and she doesn't need to listen to Ash and learn from his battles as much as May did.

She's completely inbetween the two extremes.

I'm pleasantly surprised and even a little impressed by that observation of yours, Scott. I'd grown weary of you calling Dawn a rehash or some variation thereof; and I agree, she does seem to have a unique, more on-the-level relationship with Ash and Brock. Misty came closer to that dynamic than May did, I would argue, but overall neither hit it like Dawn has so far.

Seems to fit her cool, upbeat nature really well, too.

Anyway, looks to me like they're just laughing at her messed up hair. Someone went to the wrong stylist.

I really liked Pachirisu's entrace effects, with the ribbon thing? That struck me as a lot better than most of the ones we've been seeing. (Might just be my thing for bowties, though.)

I haven't said anything about Dawn like that for months. She's quickly worked her way up to my second favorite character in the series. (See my opinion on her in the Dawn poll)

The only thing I'm kinda disappointed by is her learning curve seems kinda standard. She doesn't quite have the underdog effect that Ash and May did, and as a result there's not much emotion invested in her losses as there were with those two.

The appeals all use CGI now, so naturally they're more impressive than what we used to see.

No, no, no, I meant in comparison to the other CGI appeals. 3-D stars and hearts are fine, not really that great in my opinion. But the ribbons were actually pretty cool.
