Review DP161: The Curtain Rises! Pokémon Contest - Asatsuki Tournament!!

[Dogasu]

- Hikari's theme plays during the preview.

- Hikari's entering Mimirol and Potchama. Mimirol is seen hopping on bubbles while Potchama is spinning around.

- Urara's back! And she has a Plusle and Minun!

- Hikari's narration during the preview is something like "Plusle and Minun...anything but that!" She apparently doesn't like the little pokemon...

- We see Urara entering with a Purin and her Gabite.

- During the part where the show's sponsors are being named, we see a scene of young Hikari and Kengo in what appears to be a school. Little Hikari happily squeezes a Plusle and Minun, and the two pokemon start to look uncomfortable...

Looks to be a good contest. So that just going to be Buneary and Piplup for the appeal and Mamoswine and Cyndaquil for the battle like they were training you think?

That Jigglypuff doesn't look quite as demented as Harley's Wigglytuff, so that's nice.

Toddler Dawn like rubbing Plusle and Minun looks to be quite fun.

So I guess she's nicknamed Pikari because of the way she got shocked by those two when she was little. The preview pretty much spoiled that.

What it didn't cover is that ribbon goes missing... *prays the Rockets aren't involved*

Urara! I'm so happy to see that annoying girl again. :-D There wasn't anything about the missing ribbon, which was mentioned in the TV Tokyo summary... Weird.

Time to open the floodgates, Ursula fans. She looks pretty cool in this episode.

Wow they actually animated helping hand to look better than glowing hands thrusting in the air or without the glow.

And I knew it, young Dawn making Plulse and Minun uncomfortable and shocking her.

Yep Ursula's a Harley clone, seriously Jigglypuff? Why not Clefairy? At least that would've been better

Looks like a good episode although the appeal is a little "meh" but hopefully we're not seeing the whole thing. Jumping on bubbles does not sound very appealing. Impressive and probably takes some skill but not very flashy in my opinion.

It's weird, when did Dawn decide to use Piplup and Buneary? Seems like they just pulled it out of thin air. Was it DP155? I thought she just meant for right then and there not for the contest appeal, oh well.

Knowing Dawn, the jumping on bubbles appeal could very well be a dream and we actually see the fire and ice appeal she made it seem like she would be using. Not really a long shot, but probably not the case.

I don't know. It looks more like an innovation of Piplup's ordinary Peck while spinning.
It could go either way.

That Jigglypuff is used as a ball in the preview, like Harley used his inflating capablities.

Well D/P saga is becoming more and more interesting each day:

-Everybody uses their goddamned mascots, so f***ing lot.

-The only decent rivals are wannabes of the greatest rivals in Pokémon history.

-We have a joke rival, who is based on the game rival.

-We have two new mascots, one new Pikachu and a creeper.

-We have two pseudo-rivals that one is a lesbian mentor and the other is a guy with a crush for his rival.

-One of the main rivals is the lesbian mentor and the other is a wannabe.

-We have a woobie monkey, which is the reason why one of the main rivals exists.

-We have had only one gym in a year.

-And everything is so goddamn unexpected.

I'm surprised people's totally random speculation of Dawn having a trauma from Plusle/Minun is actually going to happen... but it's AWESOME! XDDDDD
This also explains the Pikari nickname - I actually thought they'll never really explain it but now, not only they explain it, they even use it against Dawn! It's great how in DP there's NOTHING that happens for no reason, eventually everything leads to something!

I'm surprised she'll use Pip/Bunny for performance... I thought a summary already confirmed it's Mamo/Cynda for both rounds but I guess they'll be only for battles... you'd think she'll use Pip/Pachi to make up for Hearthome... hopefully they keep this for the GF

I also thought about this when I watched the preview... hopefully that's right, but I won't be surprised if it's just a regular Peck that looks more impressive simply because everything looks cool in Contests, even if it's not like that outside of them XD
If Pip really gets Drill Peck, that would be a second random speculation of fans that actually became true and both in the same ep!
