Review DP170: Kikuno of The Big Four! Kabaldon VS Dodaitose!! ・ DP171: Togekiss Dance! The Princess's Pokémon Contest!!

These episodes air in two weeks, on April 1st.

Also, April 1st, 2010 will mark the TV series' 13th year on the air.

- We see Dodaitoise's claws glowing, like it's using Rock Climb.

- We see Kikuno and her Kabarudon.

- Dodatoise charges up a rock, eventually colliding with Kabarudon.

- In the second episode, it looks like Hikari has a twin? Reminds me of that Houen episode with that Masato clone.

- Hikari's twin has a Togekiss.

- We see Kikuno driving a car, all crazy-like. She's wearing goggles.

- After the preview, we see a shot of Kikuno calling out a Golonya.

That preview was pretty killer. We see the Princess, who is an exact duplicate of Dawn (told ya). And she's commanding an energetic Togekiss.

Bertha fight looks pretty rad.

For those worried about Rock Climb, the preview showed how not to bad looking it looks on Torterra. Of course Hippowdon is nearly the same size as Torterra, so maybe that's why, but still it looked like a great battle.

And love how Bertha is driving like crazy, if she's anyone's relative, she's anime Noland's mother.

Now we're talking. Has been a long time since we had a kickass battle with good animation. Judging from the preview I'd bet Iwane helps out Natsume quite a lot here as he did in DP164 - and Bertha has the driving skills of Prof. Birch. Awesome!

The Dawn episode seems rather meh - guess my bias kicks in as I don't really give a damn about Dawn's story any more.

Funny how I forgot to talk about the Dawn/Togekiss episode.

Oh well. I do admit though the Bertha episode looks better than the Togekiss episode. I wonder if Dawn getting Togekiss is because Iris posed as her in the contest. and it might leave questions later.

Zoey: Hey Dawn I saw that one contest and you had a Togekiss what happened to it?

Dawn: Well, I um, not sure how to say this, but that wasn't actually me.

At the very least a heads up to Johanna would be good.

It's also interesting how Iris froze up, and Dawn was kind of upset about it because Iris was basically blowing her cover.

I really hope Dawn doesn't get in trouble (Contest-wise) for letting Iris enter the contest. Besides any reason why she would get in trouble wouldn't make sense, since she already has five ribbons. But impersonation might be against the rules. If Dawn does almost get disqualified hopefully Iris can explain things, that will allow some leniency in the matter.

That said, is the Pokemon world so full of clones, that everyone has multiple dopplegangers? Or do their father's get around? (if you know what I mean).


Edit: Can anyone tell the extra goodies we'll get from this special? There was a strange line of text shown right before the "Sponsor Credits with stuff from next time's episodes" could anyone translate that? (to be clearer of what I asking I believe there was an ellipsis at the end of the text).

Maybe we'll get upcoming episodes previews, like with the last clip show, and Galactic episodes.

I don't know why, but I find that picture of Hikari and Iris standing next to each other to be incredibly cute. Looks like an interesting episode.

The first episode looks good too. Kikuno, a battle, and crazy driving. What's not to love?

Let's see if I understand this. So the Togekiss episode technically is going to be like another parody of "The Prince and the Pauper" story?:

There's a Pokemon Contest in which the Princess want to participate, but she can't because the duties of a princess. Then she meets Ash and Co. and discover how much Dawn looks like her. Seeing this like her chance to make her wish come true, the Princess convince Dawn to switch place with her for a day, so she can enter the Contest. And so, the Princess disguises herself as Dawn using her clothes and Dawn is disguised as the Princess. Possibly, the Princess wins, but then she reveals her true identity to be calm with herself. After seeing how much her Togekiss enjoyed being in the Contest, the Princess lend it to Dawn to use it in the Grand Festival. (Something like when Suzy lends her Vulpix to Brock).

Do you think I'm right?.

I'd say more like Gliscor being "lent" to the air master for training. Since Vulpix was caught with Brock's own Poke ball. But Iris seems to already have Togekiss, Poke ball an all.

The Togekiss ep looks awesome! I really can't wait for it... I hope Iris will also have the same VA as Dawn
Also, Vulpix was never "lent" to Brock, the writers randomly made that up as an excuse to get rid of it
And most likely the Togekiss will be permamently given to Dawn - there's no reason to believe otherwise as far as we know

And what move Togekiss used? Anyways, for begginers, Iris and Togekiss seem to be quite good at contests.

Edit: Anyways, with the preview, my hopes for one of Hikar's rivals other than Musashi appearing and winning and Hikari interacting and training with Togekiss when Iris is uses Hikari's Pokémon(with that I meant Pachi, Mimi or Hino) are now turned into pieces of dust... Anyways, hopefully Musashi wins this one if we won't get an episode about Musashi's fianl contest.

And if Aqua Ribbon will be mentioned in this episode and Hikari's rivals(and mostly Urara) won't mention it in GF, I will go roar roar and stomp stomp against Tomioka(Tomioka wrote all contest episodes in D/P right?).

Bertha is more awesome than I thought! Not that I had any high hopes or anything but she's pretty awesome. Hippowdon vs Torterra seems to be ace so looking forward to it. Though when did Natsume become this good!?

Of course Iris turns out to be Dawn's carbon copy. It just had to be that convenient. :-/

Both episodes look so awesome! I'm so excited!

Togekiss seems so graceful and magical, it's awesome.

Bertha is epic!!!

The only thing that makes me want to see a quick knock out is because whenever Ash faces a female Elite Four he seems to get some moves in edgewise at least or put up a fight.

However, when Ash faces the guys he always struggles more?

I always found the females to be more interesting and stronger, IMO.

I hope Bertha shows why she is the best in the business.

Togekiss seems so full of life and adorable.

Dawn and Iris looks so adorable.

I'm looking forward to seeing some bonding. Princess and the Pauper is one of my favorite tales.

The episode with the two Dawn's is kinda disturbing, does anyone feel like it seems like a shoujo anime would do?

I almost feel as if the writers are reading/watching shoujo anime and bringing those elements into Pokemon since they have no idea what to do with Dawn now that her contest arc is over.

WTF again... since when "shoujo anime" ( =aimed mainly at girls =lots of pink and love and cuteness, certainly aren't known for clones of the heroine appearing randomly)

YOU are the one who have no idea what to do
YOU don't know what to complain about, so you search for random things and ridiculously try to complain at them

Also, Dawn's story IS supposed to appeal more to girls ("shoujo") while Ash's story IS supposed to appeal more to boys ("shounen")
So I really can't see what's the problem here even if Dawn's story feel like "shoujo" - it's SUPPOSED to be this way... -_-
