Anyone have any idea... is this for real or did someone edit and voice over this with the intentions of trolling? It would be nice to see this series get a US release. Would have preferred the 1981 series, but the 1997 series would probably be more accessible to most CN audiences (who this trailer seems to be aimed at).

Sorry dude, I think that trailer was homemade. After looking at his videos hes pretty good at making musis videos, amvs etc... that combined with the fact I can't find any other source of this on the net makes it seem unlikely. I believe the company Harmony Gold did have the rights to dub it in English but lost them after only dubbing part of the first episode. (Which was never released) As much as I would like to see this I don't think it will happen ;_;

Yeah, I kinda had a feeling that might be the case... I tried looking up for articles about the licensing like you and came up with nil. And yeah, Harmony Gold did pilots for Slump and Dragonball back in the late 80's or early 90's and never were able to get anyone to want to run them as series (a good thing though... I've seen the Slump pilot, and it's seriously edited and cut). Also I thought it was a little odd that the source video on that (probably fake) trailer was clearly vhs, and not from a dvd.

It's a shame, I think that there are slump dubs in almost every language but English. Go figure.

There's the manga you know... it is translated...

There's the manga, sure. It had some edits that I don't really agree with though. Nudity and tobacco references are cut out (while they were left in for the US Dragonball manga release... and both Slump and DB have the same rating... no need for the Slump edits).

Also, I actually have most of the 80's series on dvd (and one of the movies on vhs), but not translated, and I have the entire 97 series, again untranslated... I was just hoping that there would finally be a release of the anime that would actually have a translation in the states.

Kinda reminds me of the fake US licensing rumor on wikipedia and imdb about Doraemon earlier this year. :(

Um...these days, CN doesn't really touch anything older than 2003 unless it has "Dragon Ball" in the title.

They could call it "Dr. Slump by the creator of Dragon Ball" :p

As well as "Dr. Slump, from the creator of Dragonball, animated by the same team who did Dragonball GT."

Although I hated GT, the animators weren't all that bad.
