DragonQuest Monsters was a video game released in 1998 for the original Game Boy. The publishing compay is Square Enix (Formerly known as Enix) and DragonQuest Monsters was known for being very similar to the Pokemon games with the same concept. Catching and training mythical monsters and using them to do battle.
Plot:A young prisoner from the CELL company is sent to Domus Isle to enter in the Pokemon Scouting Tournament. After choosing her first Pokemon, the prisoner heads to Infant Isle to take the Scout's Pledge and returns to Domus Isle for the opening ceremony. The assignment seems rather simple, travel across the various islands;Xeroph Isle, Infant Isle, Palaish Isle, Infern Isle and many others to collect Darkonium, an unknown essence. Whoever collects 10 Darkonium will head to Domus Isle for the real tournament to begin. The tournament is full of peril and danger.
Differences:
Pokemon will be taking the place of monsters (Unless someone requests a monster from the DQ universe)
However, Pokemon are not caught using Pokeballs. A scout needs a special item called a Scout's Ring. You scout a Pokemon by having your Pokemon attack them and if the opposing Pokemon is impressed enough, they will join your team. Beware, though, some Pokemon may become offended by your scouting attempts and will viciously attack, hence making them unable to be scouted again.
Pokemon are not seen as friends or pets like they are in the Pokemon Universe. They are more seen as tools for battle, monsters that people use to train and fight with. Scouts generally don't bond with their Pokemon.
