Review from my standpoint, preview for the American version =] And I don't have a game that fully makes use of this yet, so I can't judge voice quality etc etc, so I'm just going to give you great pics and some impressions of sound quality and playing games with it and stuff. Being in Japan is awesome.
#1 - The Box
Let's take a quick look at the box, front and back. It's packaged in a nice, very white, way. Looks pretty professional.
The front features a picture of the headset, along with a little description blurb at the bottom
[Yes, the pic is a bit blurry. Honestly though, it's just the package.] Basically the top little drawing shows the pros of using the Headset verse the built-in DS mic. Below that it shows that the DS and DSLite are compatible, while the GBA, GBA SP, and GBAMicro are not.
#2 - What's Inside<br>Ok, so now we're into the nitty-gritty! What exactly did Nintendo stuff in here?!
Basically you have the actual headset, the instructions, and some registration information for Club Nintendo [JP] with the product registration code, which I kindly blacked-out. It's MINE! =] Not that much really. There was some cardboard too, but folks, that's not the point of this article.

Here's a view of the unit itself, everything else taken away. Pretty sharp concpet if you ask me.

From here on out, no more pictures. You've seen it, now you can read about my experiences with it. If you're a "visual learner", might want to duck out for this half of the article.
Ok, so I said it looked nice, as a concept. In practice, well, it's a bit small. Like meant for a Japanese head, or possibly the younger demographic. I'm not exactly sure how that will work with the mic not being right over my lips, but I can only trust Nintendo purposely made it pretty sensitive to sound.
It's completely white, besides the mic piece, and a small piece near the headphone/mic plugin which is grey [guess: converter]. Actually pretty sleek. Like I mentioned before, pretty small, almost like a wired bluetooth headset, except the earpiece is bigger than one of those.
Personally, I'd like it if it were better suited for people over the age of 12 and/or American heads. Beggars can't be choosers though.
The plugin for the headphones/mic is rubberized, which I think shows Nintendo's quality. It's not a cheap-looking piece of equipment, and lengths have been gone to to make it equally workable for either ear, and details haven't been overlooked.

I've heard some rumblings of discontent over mono-sound, Nintendo ditching stereo for a much more minimal headset approach. I actually like it. You can hear the game just fine [tested with Mario Kart: DS] and it doesn't really detract from the overall experience for me.
Another positive is the fact that one ear is free. Personally, I always liked being able to at least semi-hear what's going on around me, and with stereo earpieces, it's just not possible unless you set the volume really low. Volume's fine on the headset, but it doesn't drown out outside noise. Plus for me, possibly huge con for you. I dunno. [Somewhat OCD, I like to know what's going on around me]

Well, Diamond and Pearl for me! If this falls, I think I'll repost this in two weeks once Diamond and Pearl come out and I can really try out the voice chat features. If I had Hunters I'd be able to, but I don't and don't feel like spending more money when I've already got a 4800 yen commitment to the next installment of Pokemon. [The games are great, and anyone who would say otherwise is a surface gamer who doesn't apperciate RPGs AND/OR will judge a game before playing it.]
#7 - Closing Notes:
Last thing I'd like to mention is that I have a US DS Original. This doesn't seem to have affected the compatibility, but we'll see in the long run. Since it's region-free I can't imagine a reason why it would.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed. And since this has only been released for a 14 hours, I'd like to say that I'm pretty on top of the newest DS hardware, and want to share stuff with the dedicated Nintendo fans in the forum!
Thanks,
