Wow.

I don't think I've finished a game that fast in a *LONG* time. I was just completely addicted to this game. And it was worth it.

I don't even know where to start. I will say this game has an excellent gameplay system - the real-time effects really get you into the battles and make it feel like more than just a repetitive button presser. And while the bosses are easy, the minor enemies can really drain you quite a bit, so it can still be challenging.

The story is quite decent, although not on par with, say, Final Fantasy, it's still very compelling, and the humor is right-on, it reminded me of Mario & Luigi in a way. NEW AGE RETRO HIPPIE >:D

The music generally ranges from average to great - some of the battle themes(especially the hard rocking final battle theme) rank among the latter.

The graphics are average for an SNES game, but I never really found myself being turned off by them. Then again, I've never cared about graphics, so...

I do have a few minor complaints. For instance, Paula starts off at Level 1 - and so does Jeff, but he has a sidequest before he joins you, so you can level him adequately. But it takes a long time to get Paula and Jeff to a level where they're not getting smacked around by minor enemies.

The other problem I have is with the encounter method - battles aren't random, so enemies appear on the map. The part that sucks is that when you encounter one enemy, other enemies will rush in to attack you as well. And in the late game, you will run into some absolutely frightening combinations - in the last dungeon I got completely raped by a Nuclear Reactor Robot, a Starman Ghost, and a Final Starman. Not fun. Some enemies can be downright cheap, and it gets frustrating. That said, despite occasional frustrations, I kept playing on - and eventually I either got lucky, or levelled up enough to where I could just kill things before they killed me.

The big thing about this game, though, that needs to be said... this game has the best final battle, EVER. Screw Safer Sephiroth, screw any Bowser, screw Ganon, there is nothing as truly awesome and emotional as the final battle with Giygas. It could have been a bit harder, but then, it's not like I've encountered many final bosses that were really that hard.

Play this game. It's emulator-friendly, so if you can't find a cartridge, well, you know what to do. Just play this game. It gets tough at times, but it is all truly worth it.
