Eevee Trainer: Mikey of Kanto and Virgil of Unova

Remember the "Original Eevee Trainer" Mikey from the Kanto episode The Battling Eevee Brothers? well now we have a new Eevee trainer in Virgil.

Anyone but me would have liked Virgil more if he were instead written to be Mikey? Well, that would mean Ash would have to age because Mikey was literally just a little kid not even 10 years old in his debut episode.

I loved his Eevee's epic Rage Tackle attack.

Not to spoil the league results for anyone who doesn't know.

It would have interesting to see his Eevee win just for some Kanto strength throwback. Mikey's Eevee I mean.

But a lot of questions would unfold like what would Mikey being doing in Unova?
How come he aged instead of Ash?
Blah, blah, blah

Reason for coming to Unova would simply be going on his own journey solo leaving his brothers back at their mansion. And deciding to raise the other Eeveeloutions because he decided to not evolve his own Eevee back when he was a kid.

Mikey would have been more interesting than Virgil, but as you said, the aging would have been apparent.

I would have liked to have seen Sakura in the Johto League, or in the Sinnoh League since the Kimono Girls became relevant again around that time due to HGSS. Aside from Gary, she is the only Eevee trainer that was actually shown going on a badge quest.

Yeah that's true Mikey and Virgil is kind of like Max and Conway. Due to age, there had to be new characters with similar characteristics to avoid the how the heck do they age but Ash doesn't issue.

But heck the way I was gushing during the recent Charizard episode flashbacks, just another throwback to anything Kanto would just make me smile. So, I really wish Mikey would have returned.

Haha speaking of old references remember that episode "The Purr-fect Hero" where this wild Meowth was pretty strong and a little boy from a preschool class was going to grow up and travel with it? Kind of reminds me of Tyson's Puss in Boots Meowth! You know except for that wild Meowth not wearing boots or a hat.

I'm glad we got Virgil. Mikey wasn't memorable enough. Virgil was a handsome rescue worker who rode around in a helicopter.

I think that would have been a really interesting throw back, especially in that Mikey's plot thing was that he couldn't decide what he wanted Eevee to evolve in to. Why not just have all of them?

I liked Mikey more, but no doubt he would have done nothing more than market Eeveelutions if he were there instead of Virgil.

So it's pretty mucha lose-lose situation.

Virgil was fine with me; I see no reason to bring back some old one-off character just to showcase the Eevee family. Not only do I not see Mikey obtaining a full-set of Eeveelutions, but seeing that kid win the Unova League would have been awkward somehow.

Iirc, Mikey stated that he wasn't interested in competitive battling anyway. With that in mind, I find it hard to imagine him going all the way to the Unova League and winning.
