Eevee Trivia (Yin and Yang)

Just registered to put up a little bit of Eevee trivia that I haven't found elsewhere; just a few pieces of art that I think were chosen for aesthetics rather than content. I thought it would be something interesting to put up on Bulbapedia's trivia entry for Espeon and Umbreon.

I think Umbreon and Espeon were designed to symbolize yin and yang. Firstly, Umbreon is a "moon pokemon", evolving at night. Umbreon's stats are defensive in nature, and their moveset lends them towards passive fighting (before I started building eevees for baton passing, I had an umbreon with Toxic, Confuse Ray, Mean Look, and Wish; slow going, but very annoying). Yin symbolizes the night and passive action (as well as femininity and other things).

Espeon is a "sun pokemon", evolving during the day. Espeon's stats are aggressive in nature, and their moveset lends them towards special attacking. Yang symbolizes the day and active action.

I thought it was an interesting observation. Went through the trouble of breeding a bold female eevee for my Umbreon; took hours.

Welcome to the forums, dude. You should make an intro thread to be formally welcomed by others.

And that is a very interesting thought, I have kind of played with this idea too, since I also like Eevees.

One of the best things I've heard about the Eeveelutions all day (comparing Espeon and Umbreon to Yin and Yang).

That is really awesome. Besides, there are many fanarts depicting the duo swirling around each other with elements on their sides. The first thing that came to mind was yin-yang.

I just remembered my last piece of "evidence". Both Espeon and Umbreon have "Synchronize" as their abilities. These ensure balance is maintained in a battle, and balance is a big concept of yin and yang.

Another fun observation; in older cultures, people recognized seven planets: Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and the Sun. This is the order of the days of the week in European languages as well as in India and Japan. In Japan, the planets have the following elemental associations: Mars is Fire, Mercury is Water, Jupiter is Wood, Venus is Metal, and Saturn is Earth. Now, the elements don't match up perfectly (I have seen metal and air interchanged, and Earth is "dry cold" in Greek alchemy), but I have decided on a naming convention for my Eevees based on this.

Too bad it will be shattered as soon as new eevees are added. There's a lot of types left, so I hope we get more Eevees. If you haven't noticed, they're my favorite. ;-)

Excellent points you make, this could be added as trivia under the entries. Either way cheers for contributing it and welcome to the boards. Hope to see more insightful and well thought out posts like this one :D
