If you don't know what I'm talking about basically an egg ability would be an ability that can be passed down through breeding.
Do you want them?

PS. I looked everywhere for this topic and I didn't find it!

Now THAT would be cool, I think, depending on what the abilities different Pokemon would have.

That would be awesome, but it's kinda... weird... I don't know, it just seems complicated.

Somehow, someone would end up chaining a legit Wonder Guard Sabelye/Spirtomb from this if it was implemented.

Ditto. Can breed with anything that's not part of the "No Eggs" group. Shedinja is "Mineral".

I think there would be certain abilities that couldn't be passed down, for obvious reasons

I think the oly way this could happen is if they gave each pokemon more than a max of 2 abilities they could have in the first place. Maybe keep it to two in the wild but have an extra 3 maybe that they could learn otherwise. Breeding would be good for this and I'd also like to see an ability tutor.

I just found the pattern it would go to get a Sableye with Wonder Guard.

Shedinja + Ditto = Nincada

Nincada + Volbeat/Illusmise = Volbeat

Volbeat + Sableye = Sableye

But they would probably work similar to Egg Moves. Just because say Togepi can get Extrasensory via Egg Move doesn't mean it can get any move that the father has. It would probably work in a similar way if it ever happened, and honestly seems like a pretty cool idea.

This is exactly what I was going to say when I saw this. Breeding Shedinja with Ditto and then Ditto with anything else.

However, I think if Nintendo were to put some restrictions on certain 'over-powered' abilities (abilities that are there to help power-up certain disadvantaged ones like Machamp's No-Guard or Rhyperior's Solid Rock) then it could work. It's a good thing Legendaries can't breed (except Manaphy, but 2 other non-legendaries have Hydration as well) because I was thinking of a Pikachu with the ability Drizzle (100% Thunder with LightBall? :p) or any high-powered Grass-type with Drought (1-turn SolarBeams).

If Nintendo could somehow balance it out, though, then I'm all for it.

EDIT: Oops, you can't breed a Shedinja with a Ditto to get a Ditto. I was thinking of this like it was some Poke-STD o_O. My bad.

LOL

Isn't that why Ditto's are nicknamed so nicely?

You never know where that Ditto's been. XD

Wonderguard is easily resolved by genderless pokemon being unable to pass on trait or gain them.

I would prefer s different system for abilities. Similar to a Move Relearner, of course certain pokemon and abilities would be restricted.

How can it be done? And it wouldn't be logical at all, I don't see a Cubone with Blaze just because it's in the same egg group as Charmander, or a Wobbuffet which can levitate because it's in the indeterminate egg group like Gastly. No, just no.

Not to mention the Wondertomb issue.

I think the point is that it would be more limited than that like the egg moves. It's not like any pokemon can learn any move through egg moved. The same concept would apply here

The only way this would work would be if there was a way to influence or determine which of a Pokémon's two abilities to have at time of hatching. Like the Everstone trick.
