Hey guys,

I was wondering if there would be support for a split thread come election day, to 3 separate threads, perhaps, or just a fresh one for election day discussion. The three-thread idea would be obama discussion/mccain discussion/miscellany. The one-thread idea would just revolve around starting fresh the day of, to more easily keep track of discussion.

But be pretty active *ON* election day.

I'd say at least start a new thread, yeah, so we don't get lost in all the pre-existent clutter.

Of course, in MY days, why, we'd have had a whole FORUM for the elections! None of this wishy-washy one-thread stuff, no sirree! We made forums for big events like that! And then closed them when we were done with them! Tsk.

Yeah, more for the day of than the day after. I was going to throw it up late in the evening on November 3rd to contain all election-day discussion.

I think a chat would work better for election day discussion than a thread.

You must come from one of those real message boards. WE DON'T TAKE KINDLY to your kind 'round here >=O.

But in all seriousness, I'm for a separate thread. It's likely to boom and become very popular very quickly.

A chat would be good, but unfortunately, trying to access IRC from my college boots me off our internet (they see a massive port scan and kick.)

If we could get a java-based, non-IRC chat client going, I'd be all for it, but...

Obama has it in the bag, we can talk about his victory now. ;-)

I'm for a separate thread as well. We could do what I did for the 2006 election with all the states and color and bold them as the results come in.

Two words: New Hampshire. 12 days is an eternity is American Politics. Don't claim victory until your hand is raised.

12 days is a long time in all politics.

However, this campaign's been running for over a year now, I think we can safely say that 12 days won't do much at all.

Early voting as also started so many votes have already been cast. Powell's endorsement is also starting to show up in the polls.

Still, New Hampshire, New Hampshire, Goddammit New Hampshire. We've got a little less than two weeks to go and we can't let up.

I'm more worried about McCain flipping Pennsylvania.

PA seems to be his "all-in" strategy. While most polls I read from 10/20 show Obama with an 8-12 point lead, McCain has time to scale that back to a dead heat. Pennsylvania (with the notable exceptions of Pittsburg, Philadelphia and small parts of eastern/northern PA) is highly conservative and backing McCain. If Murtha AND Kerry AND Frank don't shut their mouths, McCain could gain some ground.

The saving grace is Obama's ground game in PA is VERY good. Community Organizing Power trumps fear mongering. Obama can afford to lose Ohio and Florida, he can even afford for McCain to take back Virginia, but he CANNOT lose Pennsylvania. We can't even afford to lose New Hampshire, because that'll drop us out at a 269-269 tie.

Kerry States + New Mexico + Colorado + Iowa = Obama winning 273-265. This is his most likely path to victory IMO. This is also McCain's way to lose without embarassing himself.

For some strange reason, out of a weird sense of irony, I think Florida will go Obama this election: redeeming itself for giving us an 8-year long nightmare.

This isn't a new election thread, not yet. :p Keep it in the main one. I'm locking this, I'll post something new November 3rd.

Considering Dixville Notch, New Hampshire votes at 12:00AM November 4, would you please start your election thread then? Or later? Not like there will be much to talk about until some voting returns come in.
