I know, you guys are probably wondering why I'm not playing Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, but don't worry about that, let's just get to the question.

I need to know a good electric type pokemon that I can use for a new run through of pokemon X. I want to be able to get it early on so that I can keep it's level on pace with my other pokemon, but the only good early electric pokemon I can find is pikachu, which is uninteresting to me. Should I just get the pikachu and wait to get a mareep to eventually get a mega ampharos? Or just use pikachu or the whole game? Are there any other electric types that I haven't considered?

Thanks for any and all answers :D

If you don't want to get a mareep you can catch an eevee on route 10 and evolve it into a jolteon, which is about as good as ampharos. I'd also recommend considering emolga, helioptile and the magnemite line.

Is helioptile actually good though? Seems like an electric normal type wouldn't do well

Yes. Heliolisk has high special attck and speed and an arlight movepool in-game. But be aware that's quite frail. In the end of the day, it doesn't matter because x and y aren't that challenging so just pick anything you want and you'll be good :)

tbh it's not even bad its defenses are fat enough to take hits easily and unlike most electric types it actually has this neat thing other pokemon have called a "movepool"

don't care if is it's early or not just use gts

Heliolisk is good - being fast and strong - but Helioptile is a little frail. However you can evolve Helioptile as soon as you get the Sun Stone in Shalour, because all of Heliolisk's good moves are TMs (Thunderbolt, Surf, Focus Blast, Grass Knot) so you won't miss out on anything useful by evolving it early.

What's your current team right now?

Maybe we can find something!

PD: I am not a competitive player and i am learning to become one.

I used Helioptile/Heliolisk myself and was pretty happy with it (it learns Surf! That was fun). Otherwise, Jolteon is very good.

Magnemite is who I usually use in terms of electrics. Best type combo, best stats, etc.

It all depends on you. there are lot's of great Electric-types to choose from.

If you want power, Pokemon like Elekid, Tynamo or Shinx are good choices when they evolve into their final forms, they're really powerful.

For speed, Helioptile, Blitzle, and Electrike are good. they're real speed freaks.

For movesets, Mareep, Joltik, Chinchou and Rotom. Rotom is especially good because of it's forme changes.

You're forgetting that tynamo, electrike, blitzle, elekid, joltik and shinx aren't able to be caught in x (at least before you beat the elite four).

You're right, I forgot. Well, I have Alpha Sapphire and when I want to start a new game in X I usually bring Pokemon I have already caught in Alpha Sapphire to X so I can raise them there. My bad...

I enjoyed having shinx on my team. That's a good pick, also I use Rotom and you can change it to different types

Pikachu can be an absolute BEAST if you give it an Eviolite (if you go for bulk.) or are lucky enough to catch one with a Light Ball (for the offensive.) If you don't get a Light Ball, then you might as well use an Eviolite. I would teach it a grass-type move, though (if its Hidden Power is grass-type, teach it that, otherwise teach it Grass Knot.)

...did I just read this unironically

bro have you seen chu's bulk? Eviolite can fix misdreavus. Eviolite can fix roselia. Eviolite can't fix pikachu.

not dissing light ball pikachu tho, still meh but at least it hits hard enough to warrant somefin resembling consideration
