My god, I just watched all 13 episodes in one sitting. This show was the most graphic anime I have ever seen, (not saying much since I haven't seen a lot). I really liked it though. For those that don't know, the story focuses on this uhh, "mutant" that breaks free of her cell. And basically she has like four extra arms that you can't really see but she can use them kinda telepathically, and basically her creator is trying to capture her before she destroys the human race. It sounds strange but its a great watch. I wouldn't suggest it if you cant handle blood and or graphic situations. The manga is also good, except it follows a very different story line after a certain point. Some might consider the first 7 minutes of the first episode a little over the top but don't let that turn you down.

Any other fans out there?

When I have time I'd love to watch this series. It looks fantastic.

Story was somewhat weak, but hearsay claims it's a fantastic fanservice show, whether one has a lust for blood or for young naked female bodies. Lot of weird fetishes and a sad ending, I've heard.

Not really my type of show.

Eh, it can't be as bad as narutaru.

To be honest, the whole shock factor and gallons of gore is about the only real draw for the series. Other than that, it's just crappy moé fanservice. Don't get me wrong, the artwork is rather gorgeous, it excels in the soundtrack, and the opening sequence is stunning, but once you move pass that, it's ultimately very hollow.

Well I only read the manga, but it had very little graphic violence or blood and gore. A lot of people's heads were ripped off, but it wasn't really that detailed or realistic.

Next time a head comes off, I want to see some bits of spine poking out the neck.

Also, the main character's boobs were very oddly shaped.

So, GuitarHero, you can read Japanese? Because the manga is currently only available in Japanese.
The manga also has Lucy having more than only 4 vectors.

Not really my type of show.

First, for some reason I don't get aroused during the scenes of nudity. I don't even see them as sexual. For me it's just people as they are.

Second, as for the ending - it's only an ending like the Loveless anime's last episode. They made part of the manga into an anime, and then stopped. The manga continues far beyond the last episode of the anime. Which is why I continue to hope for a localisation of the manga =3

Never heard a negative critique of the show before =3
I love that characters are introduced, and then die. It seems like in the world of ElfenLied, there is no god, and I like that. Diclonius have a complete dis-care of mankind and kill at-will. The disregard for human life is attractive about the series. I like ElfenLied because of the brutal nature of the diclonius, but Lucy is also a person still. Elfen Lied makes me cry.
Sure the characters are naked - but I don't think it's about the nakedness. I actually like the fact that the characters are naked - it adds to the mature-ness of it. I think it's mature to be able to watch scenes of a plain human wearing no lies, and that human is actually diclonius who could care less whether or not they were naked. Even though sometimes the nakednesss used as comic relief. See Nyu =P
Also, it's not just the anime - the story continues beyond the last episode. So I don't think it's just a fanservice anime.

Also, the main character's boobs were very oddly shaped.

How? Elaborate. I think the size was unusual, but not the shape. The size is too large, but the shape is lovely.

Hm? The manga is available on Onemanga (not sure if it's allowed to say that, but it just says no linking right?) and in the manga, for one thing, I didn't find the shape to be consistant. I'm not one to rant about breast size, because there are Japanese women with large breasts, so I could care less.

I might go re-read it and see if I can find an example of the odd shape though. (My family is going to think I'm weird though :p)

More shocking than any of the actual depiction of violence is more the psychological effect of the violence. It's very abrupt and casual, which makes up for the lack of shocking gore.

Double post; sorry. Read the one below this one for my feelings on the show.

I love the anime and want to read the manga. It IS the most graphic anime ever. Hardly anything seems violent to me now; Only the real hardcore stuff.
The two scenes that churned my stomach are Lucy's descent into madness and Kurama's wife's grisly death. I can never listen to church bells the same way again. The violence can get over the top sometimes and seem downright silly. The English VA was terrible. Don't even bother with the dub.

Oh thank you for mentioning that site! =D I'd never heard of it before.
Now I can read Elfen Lied, which I'm enjoying thusfar, other things,
AND Pokémon Special, finally! I never got to, in the past! But they don't have all of it... specifically I was looking for the G/S series... do you know where I could find that?

Yes, I thought I talked about the dis-care of lucy. That's something I enjoy about it.

Woops, I totally forgot about this topic  Anyways...

Hah, I wish I could... as you can see in my first post, I watched the anime (with subs)

Well, after having watched some other similar shows, I would say the story is of average quality. The main draw for me was the violence, but the story was enough to keep me interested, since I'm not very critical of anime in general and I tend to really like almost any show I see, this probably isn't saying a lot.

I did skim over the manga a bit, and from the looks of it, the storyline is quite different, as well as a bit more graphic. I just couldn't get over the drawing style... IMO, some of the illustration seems off. A lot of character faces and bodies and such, seemed off/ slightly disfigured at various points throughout. The show was well animated though, for it, I would give the animation an 8.5/10, the story a 7 and the sound an 8, I did enjoy the music throughout, even though most of the "Incidental" music was basically the Op song, played with different instruments, I thought it fit the show well.

One of the things that makes me watch Elfen Lied over and over (not that I do it all the time ^^;) is the emotional side of the story. I enjoy getting sad and experiencing their emotions.
And with your liking anything... I'll find something I think I'll like, and usually end up liking it. I don't watch things I don't think I'll like.

The art is different.
The anime made the world inside Elfen Lied believable - something that could happen in real life. I suppose the manga would not be so inviting, with it's art style.

The music is a good point. The music adds a lot to many things, and Elfen Lied's music is indeed well suited.

And by the way, off-topic,
I like Conesy.

I've started watching it, and I like it so far. I have yet to get a favorite character though.
