Emerald Berry Glitch or not?

I've been growing berries in my Emerald cart, I'm up to getting my 5th badge so I have a few berries plots discovered. I've gone and planted all the spots I could and water all of them. I them put the game down for a few days and came back and a few were ready for picking and the others had gone back to "soft loamy soil" ready for planting... what happened to those berries and will they grow back...or am I screwed?
 
If you don't pick berries in time, they'll wither and die.
 
So that whole thing about them falling off and sprouting again was complete bunk?
 
They do resprout, but only a certain number of times. If you leave them too long, they just die.
 
Ah, so putting my game down for a day or two means that I'll lose the crop? :/ Damn, so not fair... I wish places would actually note this...since all i hear is that they regrow or NOTHING on what they do at all...
