Hi, I haven't played Pokemon since Silver, but I want to get back into it. I have a GBA Micro. I also have a DS, but I let my friend borrow it a while ago, and I'm not sure when/if I'll get it back. Anyway, so I'm debating ultimately between Pokemon Emerald and Pokemon Black and White. I guess my question is, is Black and White all that better or different from Emerald to wait? I actually like my Micro more than my DS, so in a way I'd prefer to play Emerald. However, I also want to see as many new Pokemon as possible. How many pokemon are in Black and White versus Emerald? Would I be missing out on some good ones?

Wait, what...

This is just unquestionable. Go get Black/White. The difference is just abysmal.

Black and White is much different than Emerald. The DS graphics are much better and in my opinion it is a better game and there are different, newer Pokemon. The plotline in Black and White is also pretty good as there is a deeper storyline. I wont say anymore so as to not spoil you, but I recommend B/W

Every single Pokemon in Black and White is new, so you'd definitely see more new 'mons by playing that. B/W is just an infinitely better game than Emerald anyway.

Black and White also gives you access to the Dream world giving you large variety of pokes

How do you even compare those two.....?

Honestly, I love Emerald. It's probably my favorite of the GBA games, although FireRed is right up there. Black/White is easily one of the best of the DS games though... so it really depends on if you want an amazing GBA experience, or an amazing DS experience.

Black/White is very story-centric. VERY. But it's also EXCELLENT. You will never regret playing it.

Emerald is also story-centric, but it's also more of one of the classic adventures, where it's more "open-world" and you go off on your own most of the time.

If you want a game format you're used to, pick Emerald, because it's a great game. If you want a pokemon game completely different than any of the other ones, choose Black/White.

Thanks for the help everyone. Needless to say, you've convinced me. Unfortunately, my friend did bail out, and I've yet to receive my DS. I'm still working on it, and I'm going to try to wait to get it back. Thanks again.

In emerald, there is almost no chance at all pf having the chance to do competitive battling with your team.
With Black and White there's an entire Wifi center dedicated to battling with other people.
