After finding out Paul smiling to Ash and ending their rivalry, is this the end of Paul? I'm now upset about this and well I can't stop thinking about it.I usually don't like the anime characters much due to the fact that they are all the same caring for their Pokemon but Paul was completely different and had some character depth(And a good one too). Now I really don't know whether to watch best wishes or not.Can you tell me if there's a chance that Paul will compete in the Isshu region?

He said he was going to challenge Brandon so I'm assuming he's headed for the Kanto BF.

While Paul was a great character, you can't expect him to be Ash's main rival forever. Ash is going to get new rivals in Isshu.

But don't worry though, Paul could have some sort of chance to stop by and visit in Isshu. It depends on what the writers want to do but he's one of the more memorable characters in the series so I'm sure there'd be some reference to him in the future.

I don't think it's the end of the line for Paul here. He could make a possible appearance in Isshu after he's conquered the Battle Frontier.

Any news about the rivals in Isshu?

Yeah, I thought it was obvious Paul would never last past DP. Much of the conflict in this saga was Ash trying to get Paul to see the error of his ways, and that was obviously going to happen at the league. Now, Paul's leaving. End of story.

As much as I dislike the fact: Paul is pretty much done. The most we'll be seeing of him will probably be a few flashbacks and a cameo. If we were really lucky he could appear in Isshu for an episode to help out Ash and the new cast.

But yup DP188 was pretty much it for him.

No, Paul is dead, shafted from the show forever.
I'd almost feel cheated if he came back for more than an arc, because I think that would sully his good farewell scene.

The most we can hope for are cameos, flashbacks and MAYBE an actual episode (I seriously doubt it).

I hope he makes a stop in Pallet when he's doing the BF :D

Nooo that can't be D: I hate it when characters disappear like that...

I didn't see Paul's episodes in action, but I read about how inhumane he is in the eyes of other people, so I had the impression that when I do see them, I will not like it as well, so I would say yes, "end of Paul".

Why do you guys hate Paul so much anyway? Isn't Ash sick, always with the "Bond" thing and losing with it?.He beats his rival but losses to Takuto the Darkrai trainer.Ash should actually face Takuto first and then Paul later so he can win the league.

Then again he's the main guy and all.So yeah but still the DP series should have been a bit more longer.I mean how can a one win or a one loss change a thing?

Btw is that rival as mean as Paul?

As Ash's rival, I'm sure it's likely he has met his end, and it was in my opinion a great and humble one and great rivalry too. At best, he might make a cameo somewhere down the line, which I wouldn't bet on.

I'm betting on him re-appearing after Isshu, having beat the Kanto Battle Frontier, and wanting to challenge Ash to a rematch.

At first I really wanted Paul to tag along kind of and explore Isshu for himself, but now I'm generally thinking I'd like to see somebody new, hopefully with the same amount of character depth.

Paul went to every other region Ash went to. It wouldn't be surprising to see him in Isshu. After all, he is Ash's greatest rival, as said in DP 188. And to be honest, I really don't think Shooty is going to fill in Paul's shoes.

The moment between Ash and Paul did seem that Paul would accept another challenge from Ash if they ever meet again. The writers might want to take advantage of that in the future maybe.

But yeah, if we ever see him again, it's probably like a little visit thing that Misty and May did (except for like an episode possibly).

Now that I'm thinking seriously about it...
Shinji was fucking awesome, not going to deny that, but mostly because of his rivalry with Satoshi. Even though they resolved that, did Shinji receive any character development at all?!

Like, it's clear he's still a pretty cruel trainer, and his jerkassness hasn't seemed to have changed.
