From the Associated Press

President George W. Bush's administration is planning to relax regulations covering endangered species before president-elect Barack Obama can reverse them.

The regulations must be published Friday to take effect before Obama is sworn in January 20th. Otherwise, he can undo them with the stroke of a pen.

The Interior Department rushed to complete the rules in three months, over the objections of legislators and environmentalists.

The rules eliminate the input of federal wildlife scientists in some endangered species reviews.

This is, I think, the greatest crime of the Bush administration. Just what is the purpose in doing this?

Well, if they're going to be remembered as a bunch of evil bastards, then why not run with it? =P

Scorched Earth is the go to strategy for a lamb duck who knows there is nothing positive they will be remembered for. Bush will likely go down as one of the worst if not the worst President in the history of the United States. Why not push every smarmy thing he's wanted to put on the books?

Right now he's edging closer and closer to Hitler in my books.

I concur, and Bush is such a fucking IDIOT!

I'd rather have our government led by a communist dictator!

Oh, and I REALLY am communist!

  • Make the biggest asses of themselves as much as they can while they still have power?
  • Trying to ensure the spot of "Worst President Ever" for George Bush?
  • Make thigs worse for Obama?
  • Bush is some kind of idiot who thinks this will get him remembered as the "Good Guy"?
  • For the lulz?
Sadly the last one is the most plausible thing I can think of. They do it because they still can.

No! Hitler was smart and persuasive and evil. Bush is stupid and crude and evil. Completely different.

:boom:... And now I hate Bush (George W. Douche) and his administration more than I already did. Guess it wasn't such an impossible feat to do so after all.

He's not evil. He just surrounds himself with evil. He's evil-adjacent.

Come on, people, I think we're confusing 'evil' with 'just plain stupid' here. Now, I'm no fan of Bush, and I find this act despicable, but I do not believe he's necessarily evil. That's a topic for a whole different thread. I just think he's the world's biggest fucking moron, and I have absolutely no clue how we Americans elected him, let alone for two terms.

On a related note, check this out, and then watch this and this. They really seem to put things in perspective (while managing to be really funny at the same time).

The real crime here is that the media isn't explaining why this is being done, they just let people say, "OMG evile BUSH!!11one". But hey, what am I talking about there's no liberal bias in the media.

There's no justification for this. And we all know Bush too well to be fooled by the lame excuse he gives.

Oh? What if these looser restrictions allowed us to drill for more oil, or build more solar panels or wind turbines? Wouldn't that be helpful, especially considering how the current economic situation is rooted in the energy crisis? I'm not saying that's why this is being done, I'm just saying that noone can give their opinion until they see both sides of the story.

More drilling won't help (it's like placing a band-aid on a chopped off limb). And solar panel construction rarely requires animal killing (especially since they're so easy to put on existing buildings). Same with wind turbines (especially with the new technology coming out of Holland).

Drilling for oil won't help. The fuel cost to set up the infrastructure to do such a thing would cost too much oil in and of itself, and the amount of oil within our country wouldn't be enough to sustain us even if we already did have it set up. Despite what the Republicans believe, Alaska is not our own personal Middle East.
